Awesome build! I’d recommend hardware cloth over chicken wire for predator protection and preventing kitties from destroying it

For sure. Chicken wire definitely would be a must for some cats. Mine are pretty chill and the screen and staples have not been a problem.

With my cat, I would have had to add a thing to keep the screen door from being pushed open further. He could open a lot of stuff so I would want to make sure. Also, I would have put a scratching post sort of thing in there too with a shelf. With two cats this can give them each a place to watch the same bird from.

I bet you wish you'd designed the people door accessable from the balcony, eliminating the need to remove the screen door extension whenever you need to get in there. Other than that, perhaps another couple of feet taller would have been good, but really, this is genius.

There are always design changes I would make if I had to do it over again. I definitely agree, making it a couple feet taller would have made room for some climbing platforms inside.

Maybe give your fur babies an outdoor tunnel/cat run so they can use some of their instincts to run around. Also they need a much bigger, higher space to jump up, etc. Look at 'our catio home's' channel for inspiration. You did a great job on this, but it almost seems like a cruel teaser....

I'd like to have something like this but I live in the middle east and 75% of the time it's way too hot to have the balcony open and probably too hot for my cat to even want to go out there. In the winter months the weather is a bit pleasant and we can go out to parks and stuff so I'm not sure it'd be worth it

You can have one made that has wheels on it so when it's winter and you want to take your cat outside, you can wheel them in their portable catio

Oh no this is bad, IMO. Sorry OP because you worked so hard. It would have been easier to cover the entire balcony with a standard 16-gauge fencing wire, so both of you can enjoy the balcony without taking space out and also, wasting all that wood for such a small enclosure.

Indeed, apartments can have their restrictions, but I did eventually make the catio larger so both kitties could fit comfortably at the same time. :)
