This is still the best build video you all have. This video shows more and answers questions than Mojotone's most recent videos. The recent ones are more about amp making philosophy rather than actually showing you anything. Most of the new videos talked for 20 minutes about populating something, just to cut at the end of the video and have it completed on the next video. This video, while older, is much better.

Mr Steve, nice job. I always like to mount the power tube cathode bias resistor and cap away from each other to prevent the heat from the resistor from cooking the capacitor and I also like to mount the speaker terminals away from the bottom of the cab to prevent the speaker leads from being pulled on while repeatedly removing the ac cord with normal use . Thank you for the informative video. From one humble tube geek to another.

I finished mine a couple of weeks ago, went great. I had one loose solder joint at the end to fix, but that's all. Sounds amazing, now I understand why everyone wants one of these. You can only really experience it by playing it live, videos do not do it justice.

I sprayed mine with Varathane Ultimate Spar Urethane. Oil Based, Satin. Many coats. Has a slight amber tint which works great and easier than brushing. I started with brushing and did not like at all how it took to the cloth. The spray was great. Outside, under a tree, on a nice day. Of course, I took it all apart first so I was spraying the three tweed pieces only; main cab and two back panels. No hardware attached at all, including the legs. Note: Put the screws back in as temp legs while spraying/coating.

Shout out to the super convenient swiveling chassis holder with attached fans at 12:50 making working inside that tight space significantly easier. 😉
@AlienSexGod4 жыл бұрын
looks like a box with velcro on it and the fan is loose. You mean easier since it doesn't move as much or tip over? It doesn't make the actual space easier to work with.

@@sgt.thundercok4704 are you fkn blind? Chassis gets moved and placed on swiveling/tilting chassis holder right at time stamp, zip tied fans added right after. A min or so later it swivels. And to think you took time out of your day to comment and be wrong… and also a Dick. Good job 👍🏼

TOP COMMENT SNIPE to note as of 8/30/2021 their manual is very poorly written around vintage vs. modern wiring. Text out of sequence on pages 14 and 15. The pictures are more accurate, but I need to note the large color sheet they send is VINTAGE wiring. Go by the pics and text on Page 19 on wiring the power cord. Pages 14 and 15 are utter shite. And they should send the full color printout for both Vintage and Modern and LABEL them as such.

At 21 min. you over-voltaged your filter caps. check the initial DC voltage with all the tubes in place. Same for the filament voltage, since the amp is completed. If there is a fault, you want to know where it's at, which may not show as well under no load conditions.
@deanmlshredder Жыл бұрын
If it were you. Would you put higher rated caps in it or something else?
@51bobtube Жыл бұрын
@@deanmlshredder I'm just saying that if there are no other tubes in the amp except the rectifier, the 500 volt caps will be receiving 530 volts. that's not really a serious over voltage condition, but will not happen if all the tubes are in.

@@51bobtube got. Gearing up for my own build and seeking all the info I can get. Thanks for answering.
@sambach94504 жыл бұрын
One thing to note is that those filters are rated at 475 volts. When you do the no load test with just the 5Y3, don't run it for long or those caps might go pop, considering there was almost 540 volts across them.
@ne2i2 жыл бұрын
Id fire it up with a variac set on 50 volts ac or so and check for voltages Itll show about half the volts required but you can still check for voltages.

Great video, thanks for sharing this. I converted my '59 Bassman to the P2P 5F6-A in 1998 and upgraded via a kit I got from Dan Torres, I upgraded the speakers too. I'm not sure if the speaker change or the 5F6-A circuit the contributed the most. Whatever it was, the amp is just so awesome. It's too loud, needs an attenuator to be gigable, but it's just so awesome :)
@deanmlshredder Жыл бұрын
To me it's kind of crazy to think about the fact that a Bassman is too loud to be gigable now and wasn't loud enough in the 60s when a guitar amp was pretty much a p.a.

This is a great video, very helpful and informative! I’m not sure I agree with the practice of soldering the cathode resistors to the capacitor leads. While it is clean and clever, it creates additional work when it’s time to replace the electrolytics in the future.

The accompanying instrumental music just wears on you after awhile. What is this? Pseudo prog rock? Nothing is said about lead dress, it all blasts by in fast forward. You mention twisting the leads for the transformer to the rectifier, but that's only a part of the whole picture. At least you provide this, some companies (Weber) do not provide *anything* for assembling their amps.
