The entire purpose of a DIY solution is to do it low cost. $529 is insane just for the molds. Why wouldn't someone just make their own molds from MDF. I'll bet they could be used at least 10 times. Besides, I'll bet I could go to Walmart right now and get an aluminum bench for under $80.

Miter saw is $150. Sheet of melamine is $40. Box of drywall screws is $7. Furniture wax is $8. I'll bet the 14 year old across the street can have 2 molds made in 3 hours.

And when you make your own, you can have an 8X8 (?) hole through the middle, saving concrete and weight.

Even for one mold you could use a vibrating device to improve the concrete setting - as in single hollow block making equipment DIY. It is just a suggestion - you don't have to do it.
