I would be concerned about pouring concrete above the frost line (if you live in a zone prone to freezing), because the frost-thaw cycle will slowly push the concrete block up together with what is attached to it. Probably better to just use the spikes as intended, though it will be harder to hammer them in straight. Then, there's adjustable versions now.

For the posts, wouldn't it be possible to use concrete screws into the tiles? Or is that not sturdy enough?

Hi there, as long as there is a solid foundation beneath the tiles the concrete screw would be strong enough but we would recommend seeking professional advice if in any doubt 😊

Hmmm. How do you make sure each post is the same height? Don't want to end up with some slightly lower or higher.

Hi Kevin, you could lay the support beam across the top of two posts and place a spirit level on top to check if the posts are the same height. I hope that helps!

You could definitely do it that way too. The purpose of doing it this way in the video was to show how it could be done on existing paving 😊

As long as you work out where the slab will be positioned before digging holes for the post, you could definitely do it this way. Whether it will be easier or not would be down to your own design, preference and abilities. All the best with your project! 🧡

I’ve always wondered. What’s the pipe pose of so many rafters ? Can’t we just have like 3 or 4?? Is it just for beauty or it adds to the structural integrity. Please someone answer me.

Hi Jacob! Pergolas (rafters) provide just the right amount of shade, whilst letting in all other elements. It's down to your own preference how many you would want to put up 😊

One deciding factor in the amount of rafters needed for me would be if you intend to put a roof on it at a later stage . I want to do a polycarbonate clear roof when it’s built next year ( 🤞)and if the rafters are spaced out correctly it will make that easier . If no roof wanted then I wouldn’t think that the amount of rafters should matter . Good luck ❤

By following these steps, your result should be a strong pergola that can withstand regular adverse weather! However, we can only advise this for a pergola that is built into the ground as advised in the video.

Why do you have to screw in the piece of spacer wood then taking it out between the Rafter? Isn't it leave a screw holes in the Beams @ 3.20.

This is to ensure there is no movement when securing the rafters, to ensure they all stay straight and evenly spaced 😊
