The original stator core was meant for real high rpms to produce anything. A special stator core is wound to produce volts at a low rpm like a wind turbine would do.

Thank you for making these instructional videos I learned so much from you and truly appreciate it. I am a totally beginner I feel like an idiot for even asking this question but on the magnet arrangement do they alternate from North pole to South Pole and is it this north pole and south pole presentation over the coils that produced the induction of AC. is that right? and how much torque or how difficult is it to turn the shaft of PMA do they spin effortlessly or does the magnets have some resistance
@jimthomas777
@jimthomas777 2 жыл бұрын
@@nothingelsetolose7661 , The Magnets are South then North as each Magnet comes around , That's what AC current means , it alternates , And there is some resistance called Cogging , the more the magnets are at a slant , the less the Cogging effect , and I left my fan blade on to help keep it cooler , I tested mine at 3600rpm for 30 minutes and it got warm but didn't get hot , the fan keeps it cooler , I also drilled extra holes in the back for more air flow, just remember not to drill into the diode block

Fix Man ,You can rewind your own stators and build your own rotors if you want , Go buy the copper wire for the stator , Then buy the high strength neodymium magnets and build your own rotors , I got a G.M. 12si alternator , Removed everything that Jeff told me to , then brought one of his rotors for around $50 bucks in 2016 , Put it in my alternator case and made a whopping 19 volts at 3600rpm , and in a 12 volt system that is great , that would certainly keep 12 volt batteries charged up , but they don't spin that fast on a wind turbine , this was for testing purposes only , these P.M.A.s can produce 1200 to 1800 watts depending on how fast they spin , the higher the wind turbine is mounted , the more wind it will get , I bought 4 rotors , they all work , I have one for a V.A.W.T. , one for a Water Wheel , one for a bicycle and one for a 40cc chainsaw engine for backup , These 4 P.M.A.s can run my house , plus I have Solar panels , So either build it all yourself or save some time and money by simply getting a rotor from Missouri wind and solar and if you want it to produce even more power , get the stator too , Or try building everything yourself making and correcting your mistakes as you go , You can make your own gasoline from crude oil but I like getting mine already made at the gas station

The rectifier in the backof the case takes 3 phase A. C. Power and converts it to D.C. power Wouldn't be better to ship the A.C. power to the battery bank area then convert it to D.C. power.. (smaller wire for A.C.)

Would having an aluminum casing with an inner ceramic surface(for rigidity) encapsulate magnetic flux and help reduce external electromagnetic interference? does that matter? would it increase efficiency of an alternator? it would possibly be lighter, but what are the magnetic implications of using a paramagnetic metal for the housing? would a diamagnetic housing work better?

Sir what wuld hapen if you force 2 like poles together ? Wuld that thing do some thing? Similar to pulse generator with out diodes? Perhaps use only capacitors as voltage and amp reference wuld that work? Because those pm alternators look similar to magnetos so I was wondering what results you get if you reverse the polarity with magnets? Im not shure if you culd get dual out put on slip rings and on stator coil?

A brushed motor is just that, an electric motor being used for a wind turbine motor. It has brushes that will wear out quickly and must be replaced if you can find them which is hard to do. A permanent magnet alternator has no brushes and is made for wind turbine use.

what is the orientation of your magnets? are your permanent magnet aligned with inward or outward flowing flux? by that i mean, are the poles of the magnets facing the coils, or are they radially oriented with opposing poles facing each other? i prefer it when the poles are oriented radially with like-poles facing each other so the flux of the like-poles would converge between the magnets and radiate out towards the coils, increasing the range and overall density of the flux

I would think orientating the magnets towards each opposit with a gap would also create more EMF . After all that is how earth works. The nothern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere with the the tropicsl gap between which creates its EMF. Except realise earth is flat, in the flux of its moving toroidal field coming out of its center, above the Arctic centre.

Hey, I've got a quick question for ya Jeff. I'm trying to make a very efficient alternator within the price range of $250 for some generator experiments and I'm trying to decide what the best configuration would be. The alternator is going to be generating energy from a generator which will have anywhere from 50-1000 pounds of force rotating a axle at the scale I'm working with. So, from your experience, what would be the ideal alternator type and stater coil to plug into a alternator case?

fyi there is no replacement stator, if it was it would have to be the exact size as the stator housing, basically the stator has been rewired, you must take the stator off, learn about wiring DC motors and do your own rewiring, the amount of magnets is crucial to the amount of coils, and energy output, if you find an old motor and try this it may not work as well if the old alternator is worn, or burned, so if you find a semi new one its way better, the neodymium magnets you can get from eBay or amazon I recommend getting cylindrical shapes, if your going to use a drill to make the holes, unfortunately a mandrill or angle grinder dosent cut the rotor as well you would need a special machine to cut the rotor nice n smooth to get the nice finish so a square magnet can enter and not get stuck to the stator/housing, after you get passed all that, then you must get past the reinsertion of the rotor with its new magnets its inevitable that the magnets will stick to stator/housing so be careful not to get cut or hurt, all this takes time and research, not an easy task but definitely not impossible, I have been trying for months on spare time and its not easy mainly because I'm on a strict budget, but start with stand fan motors its a lot smaller and easier, once you get the gist of it, you can work your way up to bigger motors and better ideas

HEY I HAVE A QUESTION....IF BRUSHLESS ALTERNATORS ARE BETTER AND MORE EFICIENT THAN THE ORDINARY ONES,THEN WHY THE CAR MANUFACTURERS USE THE COMPLICATED TYPE WITH BRUSHES AND SO MANY PARTS THAT NEEDS REPLACING EVERY SOME YEARS???? WHY THEY DONT USE THIS SIMPLE,EASY AND COSTLESS METHOD????? ARE THEY STUPID???THANKS IN ADVANCE...

Before you cal those engineers that build car alternator's stupid do research.If they install permanent magnets like in this video, the alternator will overcharge battery and blow electronics in the car in within the minute,brushes and rotor are regulators for magnetic flux do the changes on car rpm's , higher the rpm lower current trough rotor coils and lower voltage on stator and opposite, if you install this kind of "alternator" in the car and say on 1000 RPM you got 12 V , what will happen when you are on highway and driving 3000 RPM what do you think? Take it easy, do research, this alternator is good for what is meant to be with steady rpm but DON'T try in the car

Well I don't think this is going on a car but instead it is going to be getting used on a wind turbine in which a normal alternator wouldn't work.

maik vasalos alternators are simple really 12v goes in to energize the electronic magnet to create the charge.. With permanent magnets every spin directly creates electric since the magnets don't need energized.. And the faster its spun the more electric its not as easily controlled and easy to mess up

If its got magnets then its a dynamo not an alternator. Alternators do not have magnets by definition.

Gordon, your talking nonsense. Any generator that produces an AC current can be called an alternator. Your example of a dynamo is basically an alternator (can be permanent magnet or field coils) with a mechanical switch (commutator) used to output DC. Your understanding appears to be limited to what's fitted to cars and what we call them.
