I should have mentioned that you can use any type of Trainer cards you don't have to specifically use the ones I showed in the video. Also, experiment with different deck builds by playing with friends and family to see what works and what doesn't. That is the fun in building your own deck. Hope you all enjoyed! 😃

By far the clearest explanation of WHY you build a Pokemon deck a certain way. Not just the rules for building a deck.
@ImALittleBitBee9 ай бұрын
Pro tip: if you use 1 type, maybe also add some normal types. You are able to attach any energy to normal types, energy likely being your chosen type. This gives you a wider range of cards, that can use the same energies. (Plus, if you find a Pokemon of another type that only needs colorless/any energy or the type your using for its attack, consider adding that Pokemon into your deck as well.)

But why colorless type specifically? I guess you're thinking of Squawkabilly ex as a draw engine (not an attacker) and/or Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex (or Radiant Charizard) as a secondary attacker. Also, do you play Regidrago VStar and if so what dragon type companion do you think you'll include for Regidrago VStar? Alolan Exeggcutor ex SSP is seen in play for Toronto Regionals few days ago.

The only difference IMO would be too switch step 2 and 3. When I play mtg arena i would pick creature cards first, then pick enchantments, instants, sorcery, auras, and artifacts that best support my creatures. Like if i choose bloodthirsty aerialist, which gains plus 1/1when you gain life, I would use a card that gives it life link like shadow spear or an enchantment aura.

I used to build decks and play at home, I always wondered. If I have trainers from different sets, can I use them in the same deck if they both do the same thing? Like instead of 4 Hops you use 2 Hops and 2 Haus (sun and moon)? But obviously you can’t use 4 Hops and 4 Haus since they fill the same role and Draw 3 supporters.

Generally you only should put up to two pokemon types in your deck. Similarly only 2 energy types. However its easier to make a deck with 1 energy and 1 pokemon type since a lot of pokemon attacks require specific energy. However normal type pokemon can use energy of any type so they can be used in any deck. Hope this helps!😁

@TrainerTim13 жыл бұрын
If you're playing casually with friends and family you can have over or under 60 cards. The 60 cards is a just a suggestion to make your deck balanced so you don't draw too many of one particular card. For example, you could have too many pokemon in your hand and not enough energy to attack. However, if you play others at a card shop (tournament or casual) everyone will use a 60 card deck.

And also would this be a reason to not build mono decks because you leave yourself open to annihilation. I’m new to hobby so thanks for great videos.
@TrainerTim13 жыл бұрын
Haha yea I'd suggest adding pokemon cards with a different type. There are pokemon that can use attacks for colorless energy. Watched this with my 9 year old and thought the same thing, so we watched it on 1.5x speed. Worked like a charm.

Thank you! Question. What is the most beginner friendly energy. I am focused on making a deck to play for fun.
@TrainerTim1 Жыл бұрын
Honestly, most energies are beginner friendly. I'd say maybe Dark and Steel may not be the best to start with as there aren't as many of those Pokémon but they can still work.

Thanks for explaining, I really want to build a deck to play with as a hobby. and made this so clear. a question is. when playing a game. can i mix up cards from other sets?
@TrainerTim1Ай бұрын
Yep you can use any card from other sets as long as you are not playing in the standard format

So say you have four Onyx from one set and you have four Onyx from a different set does that mean you can have eight cuz they are different but I mean they are the same so
@TrainerTim12 жыл бұрын
You can only have 4 with the same name regardless of artwork or set.

Is there a standard style deck to just play a casual game with? I'm trying to get into it but all I see are the "themed" cards. I used to play with a friend in the early 2000s.. are those cards completely obsolete now?
@TrainerTim13 жыл бұрын
Sorry I'm just now seeing this cokment. Yes I would say the v decks are good for playing a casual game. However the league battle decks are better than v decks

Can you use any set to build a deck? What about mixing sets? Are newer sets usually 'better' than older sets/cards?
@TrainerTim12 ай бұрын
@deadpocketss Yep you can use any set! Newer sets will have better cards than much older sets. In a standard format you can mostly only use newer cards

If you use an attack that requires 2 or 3 energy, do you have to then discard those energy cards and rebuild that Pokémon back up, or do you get to keep the energy cards? I know when you retreat you discard the stated energy cards, I didn’t know how it worked when attacking. Thank you!
@TrainerTim1 Жыл бұрын
You keep the energies on the pokemon after you attack. However, some specific attacks say you must discard energies after using it. Otherwise, you keep the energies on the pokemon

where would you say is a good place to buy? i just learned with the battle academy but the decks get very redundant
@TrainerTim1 Жыл бұрын
Target and walmart typically have a good amount of Pokémon cards but you can also use Amazon or the Pokemon center for online options
@sofaizsly4031 Жыл бұрын
This is probably a dumb question, but do the cards in a deck all need to be from the same theme, or can a deck be made up of different themes? For example, I bought a prepared deck of cosmic eclipse with 60 cards. Would I be able to switch out cosmic eclipse cards with Lost Origins? I'm sorry if I'm making this confusing.
@TrainerTim1 Жыл бұрын
Nope. You can mix and match cards from any set you would like.
