First and foremost - THANK YOU for helping these poor homeless cats and kittens. Two things I was always taught - #1 NEVER put a blanket in the container as it will get moist/wet and defeat the whole purpose of keeping them warm and dry, and #2 - always have two openings each at opposite ends of the container in case a predator should enter the cat will have an escape route.

blankets will get wet from the snow and will not dry out. Feral cat rescues and trap and neuter programs recommend straw bedding only. BTW, never use a polyester fleece or cotton if you believe you must have a blanket...wool is insulating even when wet. You can test this as a "hooman" by wearing damp wool socks outside, your feet will stay warm. Again, most rescues say " no blankets"...they will get wet and freeze.

I know this video is old but shouldn't there be 2 exits just in case another animal tries to come in and the cat needs to make a quick exit? This was a very good video otherwise! You obviously love all kitties and animals like me. Thank you for taking care of those animals in need!

Most definetly the swinging door is a great idea but I have 8 and not 1 would use any shelters until we put the 2nd opening and ours are heated w pads...and they love them...soon as I neutered the males they started sleeping together...so I have extra and other ferals sneak in.lol

Almost perfect, but you need ventilation and a second exit: a second exit can provide the ventilation as well, just place them so the kitty isn't lying directly in the draft. Also, don't use blankets. They get damp and do more harm than good. Straw only, or if you have something that's made of 100% real wool, you can use that. But no other materials.

I think if you would wrap the silver insulation around the outside of the bin and cut it there it would be so much easier...also the bottom lay it on the upside down bin and cut...

It’s better to put it on the inside to keep the heat in from the cats own body.

Also the lower the shelter the better so there body heat can heat that house real nice unless your puting heating pads in.

Have to keep it raised up(2x4's with straw between the wood or a Styrofoam cooler lid (turned upside down with some hay, not to much) . This way its not sitting directly on a cold surface.

Great shelters but unless your cats grew up around each other and are spay n neutered they won't use them without the second door.I made a shelter similar except im going to put the swinging door..but at first I made it with one opening they will not use them even alone.I had to go back and make a 2nd door.people make a 2nd door or your wasting your money and time just try to make a door.i also cut the reflective paper into a pizza over one hole and they used it and it blocked the air and would pop back into place...but 2 doors are needed.ferals will use them unless there ferals you domesticated.

I make some with only 1 door and ferals use them. Don’t say they won’t use them “unless you have 2 doors” because that is not always true.

There's no second door and not really any light infiltration other than the flap of the door.

Hope you realised those zip ties were put in the wrong part, water can get inside through the holes!. They should have been put in the over lip! Not at the top! The over lip that is below the top part you melted the hole!

Never use a blanket, it will freeze and trap moisture. And Only use straw, not hay.

You're never supposed to have a blanket in a outdoor cat shelter because it retains moisture. No matter what you do it will retain moisture just straw only

STOP FOLLOWING PEOPLE WHO CALL REFLEXTIX INSULATION! That’s only true when installed according to the instructions. Putting bubble roll flat against plastic totes creates condensation and buildup water. 1” rigid foam or greater is actually insulated against the cold.
