Good job, but 3 thoughts. 1: should of offset the hole to one side and added a interior wall with a hole on the opposite side, this reduces any wind and rain by a lot! 2:why not just use the hole saw on the other side the center hole is already there? And why not measure the opening with your tape instead of trying to trace it out? 3: should of made some little block feet to raise the box off the ground/concrete/wood floor to reduce any dampness from rain or snow against the sides and bottom 😁👍👏

very good job. I made a similar one, but 1) keeping the entrance not centered for a better protection against cold air flow., 2) I enveloped the cube with plastic pluriball as a protection from rain. In my experience the more the shelter is rustic the more cats love it. They are definitely different from Humans, who love having luxury, useless, expensive stuff, and sometimes force animals to their crazy way of life (I saw some shelters like a Beverly Hills mansion). Thanks, Bye

Wonderful video! For the "door" I've been using a drill bit to start off then put the jig saw. I believe this was the first video I watched to get ideas. Now on my 3rd cat house! Running out of room though so I want to do a few on top of another & that should do it for my little side of the cat colony :) Thanks for the help!! I love the look of that plywood already looks finished! Looks great! Meow ~^.^~

Great video! I plan to add a second "escape" exit with a flap in case another animal tries to enter. Watching you construct and explain was interesting and informative. Using handheld battery tools instead of big, expensive shop tools like table saws and miter saws was refreshing. You have shown how other people can also build cat shelters. Thanks for showing us!

Yes well, the cats in my garden don't check for a second door when getting out of the cold. They all use the box left by roofing people in my garden even if there are others around, the rule is first comer gets it!

Actually you should not put in a backdoor.

You are a perfectionist. I am sure the cats will love you to death even if their houses are not perfect. Thank you for caring for those poor homeless pets.

Did you try putting food in them?

@@Sterlinghawk_G These semi ferals literally live at my home and inside my workshop. I built them for them because it gets so cold even inside the workshop. I guess the fact that they are so spoiled to having regular beds they just have no interest in them. (Brats 😹)

i moved in to my current house in Aug 2021. bought a EUFY doorbell cam later that year. Sometime in 2022, I noticed a little grey kitty (young but not a kitten) coming around my porch almost every day. I don't have any pets so I decided to buy some food dishes. It would eat but only after it was sure I was nowhere in sight. It didn't even like me watching through the windows or through the window in my front door. About a year later, around 5-6pm everyday, It will lay underneath a bush I have right next to my front porch steps. It would move to the opposite side of the bush when I would get its food dish and put it back (I clean them every day). Last Winter (I live in NW Ohio) i bought a little cat shelter with a motion sensor heating pad and I put some bales of straw around it and a blanket on the outside (to stop any drafts). It's a covered porch so it rarely got wet but I routinely checked the moving blanket for tears, mold, etc.. Anyway, the stray wanted nothing to do with it. I tried putting its food and water in there but it wouldn't go in there and it didn't eat that day. :( Next time I saw it waiting, I pulled out the cat treat bag (It knows what they are, lol) and put a few in there. It did go in there to get them but it was quick... it would grab one, pull it out, then drop it down and eat it outside of the cat house. Eventually it DID start going in there though (took a lot of time)... and once it figured out it was a little heated... it slept in there a lot. I could never tell if it was in there so I would just tap on my front door glass and if it was in there it would race out to the porch by its food dish. This year I plan to build something semi-fancy but was watching this nice guys build to get ideas. I built a 12x16 shed over the winter all by myself but I wouldn't want an animal in there via cat door or something.... what if it was in there and another animal got in there and cornered it... I would never hear it cry for help. :( anyway, with your stray, if you feed it treats (if it lets you... my stray is very feral and won't get close but now it doesn't move when I walk by... so it is a slow progression) put a few treats in your cat shelter. I put a few treats (3 or 4) for plaque and tartar control with the stray's daily meal. I'd bring it in to my main garage but I also worry... what if it likes being free to roam? I wouldn't want to confine it... so it is tough, I just make sure it always has fresh water and 1 bowl of nice cat food and a few treats and a warm place in the winter. =)
