You had me thoroughly confused. Your thumbnail says "Queen Castle" To me a queen castle is a box that contains multiple compartments for mating queens from cells. What is the purpose of the screen? For mating nucs and queen castles I observed that screened ventilation holes confuses the virgin when she is trying to leave for a mating flight. Ive started duct taping over them until she has returned.

You are correct. I heard that term used in that manner years ago. Thanks for catching that, I have corrected it. The purpose of the screens is to help the bees control the temperature and humidity in this queen-less queen cell starter.
