I did that for my chicken coop build, then finally bought a compact driver I use as a screw gun. Huge time saver and less frustrating.

Joel's new book has plans for his rabbit tractor. His uses wood slats as the floor, but it sure seems like the wire panel would be better... He says they bite the wire and get gun shy about eating grass. You seen that?
@CountrySiloFarm4 жыл бұрын
We have not had a problem with our rabbits eating the grass around the wire but some people might have a different experience. Joel has been raising rabbits a lot longer than we have. All we can say is do what works for your farm and your animals. 🙂
@maryellen61534 жыл бұрын
Joel says they do the slats so the tips of the grass can flip up. Rabbits go for the tips of the grass, not that which is near the ground.

This is great! Ty for the how to! Ever get baby bunnies tunneling out?
@CountrySiloFarm3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! With the size wire we have and moving our rabbits out at 5 weeks we haven't had a problem with them trying to tunneling out. They get moved daily to a new piece of pasture, so they always have something new to eat.

I really like this concept. I have 2 questions if you have time: 1. I like the size of the wire gaps but it still looks like it’s pressing most, if not all the grass down. And you have short grass. Our pastures are long. Do you think you d rabbits would dig fast enough if no mesh was put on bottom? 2. When the tractor is moved across pastures do the rabbits balance on the wires or will they get their feet caught? Thanks! New Sub.

Did you make your own braces? If so, what size did you cut them? Love the design, going to try one for my homestead here in NC.
@maryellen61534 жыл бұрын
It's very pretty, but functionally, I wonder what's the need for the little corner braces? Seems to me the plywood on the one end stabilizes the rectangular shape... as for the other end, it wouldn't have to be open - the rabbits like the feeling of being enclosed, so just covering that end with some solid material would stabilize the structure..
@donnasummers92849 ай бұрын
Maybe it helps with predator proofing? A dertermined/hungry pack if coyotes would meet more resistance with the braces. Also, if the wood on the corner started to rot, you'd have more time to notice a breech?
@Shaker_Hill_Sugarworks3 жыл бұрын
How wide is that roll of wire? Looks like you made the tractor's dimensions to match the width of it so no need to cut wire.

Raising rabbits, I can tell you this is hard on their feet. Use 1 bys or 2bys and leave enough room. Between them for the rabbit to sit on ground. They will hop onto the soft wood as you move it.

What is the overall dimensions of this tractor? You said 4x2 fencing for the bottom, but what size did you use for the sides? 2x1? Also I did see that in your update video you placed fencing around all sides then replaced the wood so they wouldn’t scratch. 👍
@CountrySiloFarm4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. The overall dimensions are 6'longx3'widex2'high. We also used 2"x1" fencing for the sides. The 24" wide rolls fit perfectly 👌

Does the 2x4 bottom hold them in? Do you leave them in the tractor all the time?
@CountrySiloFarm4 жыл бұрын
The 2x4 bottom does a great job of keeping them in. And after they are weaned from mama they spend the remainder of their life in the tractor. They are moved to a new spot everyday so they get plenty of fresh feed along with their free feed.
@steviemuse24164 жыл бұрын
No need for angle braces on the sides because you are using plywood on part of it. That keeps it sturdy and square.
@syork96803 жыл бұрын
How may growouts approximately will each tractor hold?
@CountrySiloFarm3 жыл бұрын
I would say a max of 10-12 rabbits. With the silver fox rabbits we have we can fit up to 12 but we move them twice a day to help cut feed cost.

Did you end up adding wheels so move easy as you get older and if fond bunnies born with no fur and the doe need nest and bedding she'll pill fur line nest and they won't be off milk tell 4 weeks old and stay eating feed not a lot you be careful give really young greens hive poops and you lose them
