How To | Build A Rally Fairing | On The Cheap!!!

Thank you kindly for sharing this. I had mounted a little stubby windshield, and 3d printed a little spacer to mount it to. But I will be reconfiguring, as it wasn't upright enough. I will see if I can incorporate some elements from your design, as I want to go with a little bit bigger diy windshield. I had printed a small box to hold my electronics and connections. Zip tied it above the wiring harness. I had also cut out some of the number plate to fit the box. But with a more upright windshield that was likely not necessary. But something died recently (while powering up my cheapo heated grips), so now is time for a rebuild. My gps was powered from this box, via a delay off relay. It held the power for 10 minutes, so It wouldn't loose the gps signal when I stalled, or stopped for gas. The heated grips were switched independently. Cheers.

Nice mate!!! Your Insta posts had me convinced I had to make one myself. A bit different design, but you were the inspiration. Love seeing this, but glad it wasn't out before I made mine.... just so I could have the satisfaction of taking your inspiration and making it entirely my own. I found that the gap at the bottom makes for a perfect place to keep my air pump. I hard wired that sucker in and now it's easy access any time I want to air up or down! Cheers!

DriveOnLeft I did. Found a nice looking one on amazon, but have not mounted it yet. By the looks of it it may be the same one as yours, but has a slight smoke hint to it.

Great job. I did something very similar on my KTM500 using a Stedi light for high beam and 2 small LEDs for low. The lights are much better than the std one.

Thats a pretty good way of doing it. I always still found my self wanting more light out put. ON my 500 I have now, I have the Cyclops 10.0 Ultra LED bulb. Now that is bright!

Built my own a year or so ago its held up nice i actually used 6mm chopping boards from kmart bolts and spacers to make my tower , wich is fixed to the Head tube by a custom 10mm steel bracket bolted on the Head tube, folded up my own screen with a heat gun from polycarb

It's a good quick fix. But, one point to consider is that you are adding weight to the bars that way. I encourage you to create a support that bolts to the frame, through the center of the bars. It may be lean and probably heavier, but that weight will no longer be on the bars. You could even do it with 3D printing, totally custom.

Not a criticism [ because I'm copying about 90% of that ! ] how about a piece of ally running from top cinch bolts on the forks, in a "U" shape from side to side, instead of the little instrument bolts [@4.35 mark], might be a little beefier/rigid, looks easy enough to bend. Nice work anyways.

Thanks for the comment. I have actually stopped using the brackets attached to the instrument cluster. I'm now using the bottom fender bolts and the bolts that hold the original front mask on. I found that this was more than enough mounting points. 6 was over kill.

Not really. I think you would, but I am just used to it. When I take it off and go just enduro style, I really can't say its a massive difference. It only weighs just over 1kg I believe.

Maybe use just a screen, like a 690 after market one attached to the front fairing. Mount GPS off the handle bar.

Did you need to heat the aluminium bar to bend it or was it just vice and bash?

You don't have too, but a little bit of heat makes for straighter bends. I used a blow torch to soften first.

I now have it hooked up to the main light switch. Used a 5A diode to make it possible.

No glare, the fairing does illuminate a bit, however my dash is the same level as the top light, so I have no trouble at night.

Hey mate, my current series is full of water crossings and dusty climbs, but it never seemed to get in enough to stop me seeing anything. The gap between the fairing and lower light is very tight. Perhaps I could block that off all together to stop crud being sucked in. Thanks for the insight.
