How To Build A REALISTIC Oil Refinery In Cities Skylines! | Ilos

Today we continue the industrialisation of the north-east sector of the downtown project by introducing the first industry build for about 40 episodes. This is our first modded oil build and we see what a huge difference just something like MoveIt can have to help create a much larger true to life replica of a desert refinery. This is my favourite oil build on the channel now! Enjoy.

After this incredible episode, and the magnificent airport build that was before this, I have to internally acknowledge my nostalgia towards Palaven, and the resulting bias towards it and objectively come to the conclusion that Ilos is, without question, the best city out of all the cities you've constructed and quite possibly one of the best cities I've seen built, period. I've never seen a recreation of an urban sprawl quite like this mile grid done by anyone and there isn't a single part of it that doesn't feel completely alive. At times it's completely indistinguishable from an actual city seen on Google Earth. You've truly gone above and beyond, and I truly can't see how you'll ever be able to top this. Although I'm counting on being pleasantly surprised as has happened so many times before with your content. You're a legend, a true masterclass indeed and a lovely return to form with a classic industrial build. Love to see it.

I loove the idea of using alleyways between assets like that. It just seem to fit so good within the refinery. Concrete under the more industrious looking assets and desert under extraction assets is an aesthetic I didn't know I wanted to see in oil industries. :D This is definitely my favourite refinery build, it just worked so good with the railways, the skyline with the planes taking off and landing in the background. Oil is one of the hardest industries to look good, cos who thinks oil is cute? But this build proves that oil can be cute, it can be a whole vibe, and if you fews your oil fences and main buildings together, you come up with whole new assets that look incredible! Egg is the master of innovative builds, and the level of detail is as always, astounding. Definitely going to go back to my oil industry and try to get this vibe going! One very neat trick you can do with mods and assets is "invisible roads." These are small unmarked paved or concrete roads on the workshop - I can give you some links if you want them. When you paint around them with Surface Painter or use Ploppable Surfaces, they simply disappear, looking like any other paved or concrete lot. Then you can come in with Intersection Marking Tool and mark out the outline of the road, add bollards, fences, delineators, whatever you want, So it looks like a painted driving lane through a concrete lot. That works *really* well in ports but also can work exceptionally well in large industrial areas. I hope you get over COVID soon. That's a very nasty bug - had it myself - and it's a very rough ride especially if you are older. Please take care of yourself!!

That Japanese building with the tunnel is very nice, I love that you were able to have a road go through it. I am still new to mods so I had no idea you could "force" something over another item / building. I had "move it" but still so new to all of the mods. I use 120+ mods but my build is highly specialized. You can get away with a dozen or so base mods, like what Overcharged Egg is doing, and hugely improve your modeling. It's worth it!

Great build, OE. Because this is a modded build, have you considered incorporating Badi_Dea's refinery project buildings into it for added pop? The delayed coker, pipeline, and natural gas power station all are some great assets for refineries.
