For me, the ideas in kzbin.infoUgkxAfqpMLyFn37qcqUl0FAzqkkycQeXqrhP Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.

I built a generator shed a few years back using your plans. I'm not carpenter or craftsman, I'm just a regular home owner trying to save money. I'm back again looking at building a garden shed for my wife... Damn generator shed! it, came out perfectly and now people think I know what I'm doing. If you can read and follow drawings the step by step instruction can turn anyone into Tool man Tim. Thanks!

This week we are sharing the video on how to frame a shed floor. It describes how to layout the rim joists and then how to set the floor joists and nail them to the rim joists. It also talks about squaring up the framing so that it is ready for the floor sheeting install.

I love this video series, and I am getting ready to build a shed / workshop in the next couple of weeks, and I had a question. I was wondering why some use metal straps to build and hold the structure together and you are using just nails. I like the way you are putting it together, and it seems to be sound. It also adds an additional amount of cost to build with straps, but I would like to know if one is better than the other or is it the same?
@icreatablestv
@icreatablestv 10 жыл бұрын
Straps are required in areas of high winds. Florida is a good example. Some areas have a wind rating of 160 mph so they need straps to hold everything together and to the ground. When nails are used properly they provide a strength rating that is accepted in many areas. Check with your local building department to see what is required for your area.

Thanks for the videos! Started a while ago now I'm hooked and up all night. Quick question though: Some time in the next year or so I'm going to build a shed behind my house to use as a car workshop for body painting. I'll need a foundation that can handle 10,000+ lbs of heavy duty trucks. It's looking more and more like I'm going to have to build a whole concrete foundation as if I'm making a garage but based on your expertise would a solid wooden foundation like the one you use (just heavier duty wood for the larger shed of course) be good enough to support the weight? Thanks again!!
@icreatablestv
@icreatablestv 10 жыл бұрын
M. Yasin Hi, It can be done with wood but it will likely cost more than concrete. A concrete slab costs slightly more than a regular wood framed floor so it is not going to save any money. It can be done though, think wooden bridges. You should consult a local structural engineer to size the parts. Thanks for watching!

@icreatablestv
@icreatablestv 9 жыл бұрын
VikingLumberjack 6500 It depends on how big. The 2x6 floor joists will need more support once you get up to 10' wide or you can install larger joists. The roof rafters should have a king post once you go to 10' span, depending on your local snow loads. The walls are built this way no matter how large the shed.

I'm curious, what if I plan to have dirt floor in my shed? I need to remove an old broken metal shed & replace it with a custom made wood shed around my water well, cistern, pumps, etc. Because the pipes run underground & everything is lower than the concrete perimeter, I can't put in a wood floor. But I also plan on enlarging the shed's footprint by a few feet on the back end. That part might have some flooring. Would it still be sturdy if I only had the joists spread 16" on center on the extended part? Do I need to use pressure treated lumber if I'm putting it over concrete? Or is there some sort of barrier I can put between the concrete and the rim boards?
@marlinbundo2409
@marlinbundo2409 3 жыл бұрын
I am not an expert, but I can tell you that any wood that will contact the exterior concrete needs to be pressure treated. Concrete wicks moisture readily and will rot your boards over time.
@mycats7321
@mycats7321 3 жыл бұрын
@@marlinbundo2409 That's what I thought. I was also thinking of having some sort of additional barrier because even pressure treated can rot over time (I found that out the hard way).

I just want to check: when I use the 16.75 measurement, it should come out uneven right?
@icreatablestv
@icreatablestv 7 жыл бұрын
The dimension is 16" on center. The measurement from the first end to the edge of the second joist is 16.75. This is so the edges of the sheets of decking hit the center of a joist.

@icreatables. Learning as I go here! Thanks for your video! Quick question: if I am building a 10x20 shed, using 20’ lumber that’s 1.5-ish inches thick, that means the width is really 10 feet 3 inches. Does that mean I need to cut all the joists 3 inches shorter to be a true 10 feet, between the two 20 foot rims?
@icreatablestv
@icreatablestv 4 жыл бұрын
You cut the lumber down so the finished size to the face of the studs is 20'. When you put siding on it will be an inch or so longer.

As long as I aim for around 16", it shouldn't really matter if it's exact. As long as each end is at the same distance from the last joist. I can get too bogged down by the maths. I understand you don't want to go much wider than 16" but an inch isn't going to make much difference right?

Hello cris, can i use scaffolding wood planks on my floor frame,, i got a concrete floor to lay my wood frame...
@icreatablestv
@icreatablestv 10 жыл бұрын
Vhon Samson Materials other than O.S.B. sheeting or Plywood can be used as a floor decking. I believe what you are describing is similar to the way a wood deck is constructed. Check with the manufacturer of the planks to see what the span rating is and then decide if that is enough for what your floor strength needs to be.

Nice video, but I notice a small error. At 1:05, you say "continue making marks every sixteen and three quarters inches..." If you did that, they'd be 16 3/4" O.C., not 16" OC.

@icreatablestv 9 жыл бұрын

@ClosetWorkshop 5 жыл бұрын
@@icreatablestv You don't have to start at 16 3/4", you can start at 16" and go in multiples of 16. The way you are doing it, the second joist's center is at 16", but the first joist's center is not at 0", it is at 3/4", so the second joist is 15 1/4" from the center of the first :) It is not a big deal, but math is easier if you go in multiples of 16 :)

Daniel Hunter Most every board has a bow to it. When you frame a wall you should make all the bow point upward. This is called crowning the board. It makes the wall look straighter and it the boards move any more due to drying out they will all tend to move in the same direction.

TERMITES are in abundance in GEORGIA. I do not recommend placing shed on floor. what is the next best recommended solution per iCreatables? Last shed I set up I used "multiple" cinder block (2 high) and even poured concrete in the two cells to set up before I built shed on top . I had to extend the ramp on front a bit as it was high. But I was able to spray the entire bottom for termites and pests when needed to keep them out. Plus air flow kept it dry underneath.
