Very helpfull videos (both)! 👍 I want to realize a Google Home enabled smart mirror for the bathroom, but I ALSO would like to put a face detection sensor (not just a movement sensor) so that when someone stands in front of the mirror for i.e. more than 5 seconds everything turns on. Are you aware of anything available like that for the Raspberry? 🤔

I'm just now getting into this for a project. I've been watching videos for hours, it's currently 430am where I am. You gave good instructions on this and how to build it as well. Gave me some guidance to combine the smart mirror with the wireless charging coffee table. Thanks man.
@bvaught90297 жыл бұрын
A few suggestions. 1. Cover the charging chip. With something .. anything 2. Tie those cables t ogather and secure them neatly 3. Invest in a Pneumatic stapler 4.Clear coat the frame 5. Secure the frame to the support frame with something more than glue. Just suggestions . This is a total badass idea and I really appreciate you sharing. My suggestions are only to make your creation better not to tell you what to do . Hope that didn't come off that way. THANKS

That's a solid build. Putting retaining clips on the cables passing from the monitor (when you could have just stapled or taped... for something that nobody is going to really see) shows quite attention to detail. It kinda looks like you could see the dimensions of the screen since the glow of the monitor's backlight was bleeding through. I think, for version 2, I might consider either going with an OLED monitor or adjusting the brightness/contrast of the monitor to make it harder to see that there's a screen behind.

Thanks for this video! Quick question, in the Alexa Smart mirror build, I see you used a more expensive mirror/glass for $150. Can we use the cheaper Acrylic glass from this build for the Alexa smart mirror? What is the difference exactly? How come you went with the more expensive glass for the Alexa build? Also, do I have to purchase the same exact monitor you used or can I use one (HDMI) monitor I have laying around? Thank you again!

Hi I used an acrylic mirror for this project which is 30% transparent and 70% reflective. You can put a TV behind the whole thing is you want it it will show through. If you paint the back black, then it becomes 100% reflective

Ty for the video. I don't get it though, the cost and build time of this would allow for pulling a phone out of your pocket tens of thousands of times, replacing the phone when it got old, and you wouldn't have to be in the bathroom to use it? Very pretty though, and nicely done

Loved the idea and your efforts! However, I have a question for you: Won't the humidity in the bathroom effect the functionality of the mirror over the period?
@Grensom6 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are right humidity can damage the circuitry if not properly protected against. Now I haven't really shown this yet in any of my video, but to combat this I use what is call conformal coating on the circuitry of the project. You can either spray or brush on this "conformal coating" and this will put a silicone or similar coating on the circuitry to protect it from any dust, moisture or other particles. Basically it creates a water resistant seal.

What pi do you recommend I have a 3 and a zero w, also what monitor do you suggest to use???
@Grensom6 жыл бұрын
I had some trouble using the Zero W, because that was my first choice due to the size, price and built in WIFI. Because I couldn't get that to work I decided to use the Pi 3. I know the Zero is doable though, but the Pi 3 is what I used and is an easier setup. My other video goes through the complete setup with the Pi 3 as well if you wanted to reference it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppTQm5uqZa2krNk
