How are you testing those welds to make sure they are sealed ? Because quite honestly they are some pretty poor welds for something that is supposed to be NBC rated.
@randyporter34914 жыл бұрын
I came for the shelter build, but stayed for the expert comments. First master welder stated how poor the welds were, saying they were NOT up to certification. Second master metalsmith weighed in and observed how beautifully the shelter was welded. Both opinions were mirrored by other viewers, with varying levels of expertise. I’ve learned, there’s absolutely no need to go to school to learn a craft, a trade, or become a surgeon. By reading comments of self-appointed experts in all fields, one can learn from the true masters. If fact, I’m guessing that scribes race to take down every word posted, so future generations of shelter builders and neurologists can benefit from their wisdom and insight. In short, we’re lucky to have them ! 🤣

Every hammer blow filled me with more and more rage. The hammer doesn't "draw it together". It's used to make up for improper fitment. You can fill almost any gap with a series of tacks and a hammer. Fit it right and you won't have that problem. Some of those welders sounded good, but most sounded like they were too hot. I'm curious: are your guys AWS certified - at least to 3G? Is it in house or third party? Do you ever have a CWI check you? A "light" test doesn't check for an airtight seal. I'm sure this is a fine novelty, but I wouldn't trust it in a serious situation.

Are there any modifications to increase radiological attenuation for fallout protection?... e.g. 16 inches of solid cinder blocks... Since this is described as a fallout shelter...
@AtlasSurvivalShelters6 жыл бұрын
No there is not on this type this will only protect you from Alpha and Betta if the house is still standing but its a tornado shelter primarily !

@@AtlasSurvivalShelters so what should be considered is if it is possible to add concrete shielding blocks around the structure (this may require some additional reinforcement when adding blocks to the top) to provide effective protection from fallout? Think in terms of a small low cost above ground (and water level in many areas) shelter that can be incorporated into a existing structure (or added to a structure under construction). Might not be very nice, but if it can hold 2 people for 2-weeks... It could be a lot better than most other options...

Got some bad news for y'all. You install this in your garage and get hit by a tornado and your gas line pops you're gonna have your ass trapped and be dead. Shelter Doors should *ALWAYS* open in not interior to exterior. If it ain't buried it's not surviving a F5 I saw similar shelters knocked off their mounting bolts and thrown 50 yards in Joplin in 2011. Not criticizing Atlas yall do good work it's just a critical design flaw I see duplicated too much.

Why don't you use a magnet to lift the top plate on. We pickup 4'x8'x1/2" plate steel for the shear. When we go under a 1/4" plate steel it would then bend and could let lose.

Having been a steelworker in the past, but a long time professional in Safety and Health, these workers should have had safety glasses on while the welding was going on. Better yet would be having safety glasses on for anyone in the fabrication area. The spark from the welding process or grinding could be cause for the loss of an eye for ever.
