Use abit of sticky back craft foam to create rattle stops on your blade. You should only need about 6 inches from the tip down to make a snug fit. Instead of using that variety of Clear tape, find the packing tape, it's abit lighter and abit more pliable. If someone doesn't have a sewing machine, they can use 1 or 2 Woman's tights to create a cover. This will vary based on opacity.

@davidjordan24463 жыл бұрын
interesting to see people who do different systems, the outside with packing tape is odd, that's never where my foam breaks down and i never packing tape it. I suggest cutting down the foam and glue it with DAP that way you have a lighter blade with no duck tape building up the core. Great video much better than most boffer making videos i have seen.

I have a Bel legal club built this way. Basically the same as an Amt club, but built with a heavier core to make weight minimums. My favorite weapon.
@rryuan5 жыл бұрын
For anything other than counter weighting I prefer to use strapping tape over duct tape. I also like to securely tale a nub/foam blunt onto the ends of my cores. Not bad though.
@robertanderson7607 Жыл бұрын
Have you considered using a "biscuit tip" on your cores? It's a piece of foam the size of the core and helps the stab tip last longer by absorbing the force from the core into the stab tip. Helps reduce punch through into the stab foam from stabs.
@synapse809321 күн бұрын
wanna elaborate on this? I'm trying to make my own swords and I'm not finding anything when I just search 'biscuit tip" online. Is there a store link maybe?
@robertanderson760721 күн бұрын
@@synapse8093biscuit tips are just a scrap piece of higher density foam (such as the grey puzzlemat from harbor freight) that's cut to the diameter of your core tip and attached to the tip of your core before putting the blade on. All the stab force of the core goes through that first before your stab tip foam, so the core is less likely to punch through the stab tip foam.

@granatmof4 жыл бұрын
So I used to play around a decade or more ago, and I gotta admit some of your techniques were the same, some were different, some were a matter of choice and preference. I prefered building up a handle directly on the core using duct tape as a base instead of pvc. I maybe recall using coins or washers to prevent stabbing cores from going through, but that may have just been for arrows. My reflex would say your pommel is a bit too small, but I would also recall many fighters with grip from the pommel for extra reach resulting in a smaller pommel anyway. The big change to me is the use of slit pipe foam. Over 10 years I'd assume pool noodles quality and spec has further degraded, but I would have figured there was some online resource for hollowed foam by now. The pipe foam I'm used to seeing isn't thick enough for a striking surface, but useful for courtesy padding on polearms and such. Before I went into other hobbies, I thought some people were going to start an online website to wholesale individual parts like large outer diameter kitespar and hollow foam tube. Most of the video though I recall doing Saturday morning before heading to the park, as well as replacing foam on worn swords. My friends and I would buy entire boxes of pool noodles to last through the winter. I also branched into flat blades, and made fun things like a frying pan dagger, a buster sword, multiple giant shuriken from pvc cores (counted as a javelin, so no slashing). Those were fun to just throw around at the park honestly and the aerodynamics would cause them to stall at around 30 feet or so, so a very large frisbee.

Tbh when I built the tutorial, I took techniques for different videos that I could find here on KZbin. So it’s a blend of different things that I felt comfortable doing. The swords in this video were actually the first ones I ever built 😅

I have never heard of amtgard tbh but I play Jugger and we build our "swords" with pretty similiar materials and yeah, some use pool noodles instead of pipe insulation (really depends on the personal preference). I put some of that clear tape around the rod at first so that it's easier to remove an old noodle if needed. If you have access to already hollowed out noodles you just need some glue and if your noodles aren't already hollow you just do it yourself (for example by cutting it in half lenght-wise and hollowing out both halves with a knife)

@jacarter794 жыл бұрын
I"ll talk through it breifly. You take a shield foam and carve about half way through it to make a channel. Lay a piece of PVC pipe that measured out about 17in past the shield on both sides. That makes it dagger length. Use contact cement in the channel and let the PVC set and cure for a day. Put a plastic sander that you get from Walmart, also called a trowel handle, in the center. Drill 3/16in holes in the trowel and run zip ties through it and the foam and connect them. That will lock the handle in place and help anchor it. Pad the exposed PVC as you would a dagger and cover the shield and voila....madu. I know thats not as good as a video but its rather simple to make.
