How to build a Transparent LCD Side Panel for PC: Snowblind build

The monitor i used is from Acer not Samsung. I mispoke in the video. And If you are trying this mod, then here's a few IMPORTANT heads up. 1. make sure you leave the wet cloth on for around 6-8 hours before you peel it off. Peeling it off too immaturely leaves streaks, and leaving it on for too long peels off the polarizer as well at times. 2. Right after you take the LCD panel off, secure the long board that's attached to the panel with vinyl tapes like I did in the video, cuz it SUPER easy to get damaged. (I destroyed 3.) 3. If you have black components inside the case, this mod is NOT worth it. You really need plenty of LEDs and a white interior to really make it work. 4. GOOD LUCK! I only have a black Motherboard and black ram (the rest is white) i don't think thats gonna make the end result much different then yours if i put enough light in the case

@randompsv2409 that's what you think, but a black surface cannot reflect light properly. Which makes the lcd barely visible. But do give it a try, cuz I might be proven wrong. Lemme know how it turns out and good luck

Nice video, I did this mod already. Something I'd like to add is: Use a very bright cold white LED strip. Don't get an RGB one. You can change the colours with the monitor. You need all the white light you can get

So i am guessing to tell the monitor side panel what to display we use a vga/hdmi cable connected to the small motherboard then routed your spare hdmi port on your pc tower. My 1st ever pc mod i amwill try asap

Your snowblind custom is so simple, specially where you cut off the power voltage of the the monitor and just connect it together. Unlike others they compute the voltage in order to know which is the right one to connect voltage together. By the way you said Samsung monitor but you use the Acer AL1717, which is the right one? @Dropship-jc9yq sometimes the anti glare coating is pasted on both sides. As long as it is not the polarizer which is usually tinted, you're safe.

I'll do this! One thing I'd change is connecting all the 5V to a molex and directly to the power supply, that men just 1 cable going out the case (the HDMI)...

Are you having problems with your main monitor? Many people write that if two monitors with different Hertz are connected, then the main one (144 or more) will have problems. If a video is launched on the second (custom) one, there will be a drop in frames (and frame tearing) on ​​the main one in dynamic games

i have used this for 2 months now, and i don't have any problems. This is just my opinion, but i think it will only be a problem if you are trying to display a single window in 2 monitors with different refresh rates. not sure though, but I've never had this problem cuz i dont usually split 1 window in 2 monitors.

@thathugepillow3577 hi Huge pillow 🤣. so if it isn't written on the board, the only way I know how to check is to plug the cables in, turn the board on, and check it with a multi meter. Set your multi meter to Voltage, take your black wire of the multi meter and ground it somewhere, and test with the red wire of the multi meter. If the voltage is 0 or close to 0, that's ground wire. But I don't think you should worry, cuz I have taken apart 3 old monitors from different companies and all of them had it labelled

@williamcheim hi I haven't dismantled a laptop monitor but most LCD panels can get powered 5V so yes. My doubts are with the control board in a laptop, I don't know how it's connected there.

I forgot to film the rest of that part, but it is to remove the anti glare film. You have to keep a wet towel for at least 5-6 hours and peel off the anti glare coat. Don't keep it for too long cuz the polarizer film can peel off too

this will work with any case with a tempered glass. you just might need to make a bit of an adjustment

Yeah, so the small board I mentioned in the video, has a VGA port. I connect that to my pc like how you would for a regular monitor

Yeah keep it for atleast 5-6 hours. And comes right off. Also don't keep it for too long cuz I did that to one of my screens and the polarizer film peeled off as well

@hardikdhingra6267 if the polarizer peels off, it will not display any image or barely will. In your case, it might be either the background or the light or both. So this works best with a white background, and the pc inside has to be well lit. Any black or dark background really affects the visibility of the image

@hardikdhingra6267 I'm not sure how that will affect the visibility cuz I haven't tried but, like I said earlier, if you have a low lit background or have pc parts that are black or dark in color will hamper the visibility.

As long as you didn't peel off the polarizer which is a bit tinted, you're safe. Anti glare coatings are just a transparent coating and not coloured or tinted.

@@МаксимШерычев Hmmm. from what i know, the multi meter should give a closer reading. BUT if you have identified the other wires, like the ground and 12v wires, and if these are the only ones left, then yes, that's most likely you're 5v wires
