The guide was a great help for me, and honestly the installation is super simple once you get the LCD disassembled. (Also shout-outs to Philips to providing me the service guide for the wiring diagram so I didn't have to use the provided power board. I'm still waiting on getting two 12-19v step ups so I can use my power supply directly though). Thanks again for the guides and links to everything man!

The fact that you said "You've been waiting 2 years for..." Made me go "Holy crap, it's been a LONG time since I did that mod lol Good stuff dude, I still want to do a follow up mod to mine, with a few upgrades of my own :-) i'll be interested to see what you come up with for a saleable version Now you see why I started with a white case? :-P Good tips about the boosting of contrast and saturation. That's especially helpful with non-IPS monitors. VLC + Rainmeter is exactly how I drove mine the whole time. Was fun to overlay the hardware usage/temperature stats right over the component
@ImmodderNation
@ImmodderNation 5 жыл бұрын
I'm surprised iBuyPower didn't come to you and say "Hey can we copy that mod you did in 2013?" Almost 6 years, Chris, can you believe it? Now tens of thousands of people own the thing that you started. Really I should have started with one of those CaseLabs cases where the motherboard tray is a single piece of white metal with holes for cable management and nothing else. The good thing about Nvidia Control Panel is that you can change the settings for individual monitors without affecting all of them. iBuyPower doesn't use Rainmeter anymore because the newer versions don't support video. Thanks for always being there when I had questions, Chris.
@MosquitoMade

@@ImmodderNation Well, ultimately iBuyPower could have easily burried me even if I had said no, or wanted monetary compensation for my idea anyway, so I'm not that surprised. They claimed they didn't see my mod until after they started searching around for patents on it online, but whether that's accurate or them trying to lay claim to it being their original idea, I don't know :-) No problem on the answers, I've always maintained that one of the things I enjoy about this hobby is helping others and encouraging the expansion of ideas. I think your v2.0 is much better than my original (I like your acrylic tab mounting, one of the issues with mine is similar with the sag, but I was more concerned about panel flex cracking my screen, which may be unfounded). If you want to bounce ideas around if you do get to do the retail version I'd be more than happy :)

That's the problem with corporate lawyers. They can bleed you dry in court fees until you give in. I don't think IBP would use bullying tactics but they absolutely could. My research shows that they don't have a patent on the name Snowblind and they don't have a patent on LCD displays inside of computer cases, but I still need to check that with a patent lawyer.
@MosquitoMade
@MosquitoMade 5 жыл бұрын
@@ImmodderNation So many people told me I should have patened that when I did it, but ... patents are not free, and for something that I wasn't planning on personally selling, the only way I woul d have been able to recover any cost would have been by licensing it, or sueing someone who tried to use it, and I didn't have the money for the latter, or willingness to drop the money on the former... But, I'm not sure they can have a US patent for it anymore, since I made it public both in a digital publication, it was also printed in a magazine, and in use. So it's possible they didn't try to patent it because of that. And certainly I wouldn't wouldn't be able to be pateneted now due to IBP having already been offering it for sale. But I'm not a patent lawyer, so maybe there are ways around it, idk lol

ImmodderNation I hooked my lcd to another known good lcd board to my old psu and it works fine, I’ve done this mod before on a view sonic and that board still works. I tested my monitor that I got off eBay today(1908fp) and it did work, then when I was figuring out the wiring with the multimeter it didn’t work. Going to this comment looked good because I have the same monitor so I tried red and yellow and I get heat from my psu and a nice smell. Idk what to do with the dell board so for now I’ll use my view sonic.

Not bad. Really clean DIY. Instead of a switch on the back for the lights, I used an IR blaster so I can turn my led lights off in a distance. Those extra pieces on the aio sleeve are for the other end of the tube, also the aio would look good white. The silver corsair plate on the aio should be removable for painting or maybe vinyl wrapping. Also maybe a white exhaust fan as well. All in all clean set up.

7:15 WIRING DIAGRAM. I heard your cries for help from v1.0
@kinginanorth
@kinginanorth 5 жыл бұрын
Hey bud just offering another option in the event you would like to try a different route. I found that the wiring diagram can be hit or miss with the different variants of LCD displays thus taking a different route. If you can get the model number to the LCD display you can source an LCD controller board with features that include brightness adjustment display rotation and HDMI output while using a standard barrel plug wired to molex PSU. Here is the link www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06X9NJ2NR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 for about 30 usd it makes this extremely easy for any novice. I put together my Arctic (Snowblind) case over a year ago and once completed honestly packed it away and haven't touched it since. The entire process was extremely simple about 4 hours in total after planning and research. The build is very clean and looks like an off the shelf product with no visible cables or notice of any custom modification besides the LCD screen. The base was build on a Corsair Carbide 275R no painting outside of the tempered glass. I've build and sold a total of 16 of the display/case for locals and in over a year have not had any returns or complaints. Cases used Lian Li Alpha 330 & 550, Corsair Carbide r275, Corsair x465 to name a few. Heres a link to my first attempt a year ago, sorry for the audio and plastic film still on the tempered glass kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIDLqKKwpLuprNE I am about sharing knowledge not monetizing so any help I can provide feel free to ask.

...light guide with grids?? No need for that... Just use an IPS panel and make your own "light guide" plate out of thin acrylic plate. sand the top and one of the sides and use the light strips directly on the clean side (not sanded). This is so the light will go through the plate, and make the monitor appear brighter. Also set the digital vibrance up. If the monitor has its own settings.. turn everything like sharpen etc off. You will still want a white or silver background as much as possible. Eitherways.. the monitor will manage to push colors and details much better over dark objects than before. For those who saw this mod on my channel, sorry for not making a guide on this, never found the time.. and I kinda lost interest for this mod, as it kinda made the watercooling eye candy look less good. Great guides you have on this mod, really well explained!
@ImmodderNation
@ImmodderNation 4 жыл бұрын
I have noticed that the light guide with a dot pattern does produce noticeably better contrast. The type of acrylic I used for the light guide is extruded, which is not ideal for light diffusion. I'll have to check out your channel, thanks for the suggestions and for watching my videos.

Using acrylic panels was a cool idea, I used 22 gauge steel. My question is, why put the cable holes in the same place as the case holes? You have a blank slate, cut the cable holes to give a nice, straight route for the cables and cut the holes in case to match. Put my steel between MB and front of case to #1: Cover up case holes and let me put my cables where 'I' want them. #2: Cover stampings in case that stiffen it. #3: Give me a place to hang my 7" sensor panel in portrait mode. (I'm a few decades behind you in skill level + imagination). Great video!!!
@ImmodderNation
@ImmodderNation 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Tommy. Thanks for the comment. There is a motherboard tray behind the acrylic that limits where the cables can pass through. I would have to cut the tray completely and that's cold rolled steel. Not something easy for a Dremel or even tin snips. I could have cut the holes smaller for the connectors I suppose but that wasn't my concern when I was making it. I may do a video on my version of the hardware monitor display as well. Many more videos going up before that.
@tommybaker4330
@tommybaker4330 3 жыл бұрын
@@ImmodderNation I decided to switch to acrylic for it's non conductivity and less probability of abrading wires that pass through it. I wasn't suggesting removal of a large portion of the sheet that the MB attaches to, but simply marking the location of connectors and using a hole saw and/or Dremel to cut access holes that line up with them in the 'back plate' and acrylic. As far as cold rolled steel goes, it's very thin and cuts like butter.
@tommybaker4330
@tommybaker4330 3 жыл бұрын
I'm building from scratch and have a 'naked' case which makes it much easier than you working with a loaded case with components in place and cable management done. No need to worry about metal shavings etc. getting where they may cause a short or nicking a cable while drilling or cutting. So I understand what you did and why you did it that way. The Snowblind aspect shows great improvement and possibilities. Keep up the great work.

Why do you use a square LCD rather than a rectangle one? Will that affect anything if a rectangle size, with an aspect ratio not close to 1 is used?

So how would this look if you kept the original tempered glass instead of getting new acrylic? Also any tips on how to pick the right case? Would it be fair to say that if acrylic is required, a case with a simple tempered glass held by thumb screws would be what you need? Thanks in advance!
@ImmodderNation
@ImmodderNation 5 жыл бұрын
Tempered glass appears to be tinted darker from photos so it might not be as bright as clear acrylic. The iBuyPower Snowblind Element uses tempered glass but I don't know if it's different in any way. Non tempered glass cases are actually easier to work with because the components of the LCD are more likely to stick and having a border around the window makes it easier to hide electronics. See the iBuyPower Snowblind Element for example.

The answer is always "Carefully." 👍😉 Joking aside, it looks like your window is relatively "square" except for the clipped corners. Find a smaller monitor and use black electrical tape or vinyl to correct the aspect ratio on the glass.

I recommend TFT LCD. Anything 5:4 ratio is ideal, but it depends upon the window you have in your case. I recommend Dell 19 series with DVI inputs but most any monitor can work. These monitors are usually plentiful and can be found for cheap. If you mess up a few times like I have, all you've lost is time, but you've gained knowledge and experience in the process. Good luck!

Display is working but your video board is not connecting to your graphics card. Maybe try another system see if it connects. Windows key + P is your friend.

It can be done but you'll need to hide the electronics on the inside by painting the tempered glass with plastidip paint, black vinyl, or the like.

It was at the edge of the display. I later got rid of the hard drive enclosure and made a psu shroud from acrylic cause I didn't like it either.

Remember that molex has 5V and 12v. 5v is red, 12v is yellow. I talk about this in another video "Powering your electronic projects." I also have a beginners soldering guide you can check out. There is also a discord forum if you need more help. Check the links in the video description

Do a Google search using the LCD panel model followed by the words "video board." Usually you can find something on eBay and sometimes Amazon in the $20-30 range.

Would it be possible to do this on the Cooler Master MB530P?
@ImmodderNation
@ImmodderNation 5 жыл бұрын
Yes but because it's tempered glass sheet, you would need to block out the parts not used by the LCD with either plastidip or adhesive vinyl. Still haven't decided what route I will take.

The biggest "square" monitor i've seen is 20". Might need some letterboxing. If you could, measure the dimensions of the window and respond here. Thanks Llama!
@johannesgrams54

i ran in the same problem, (almost got the 900d obsidian) my idea on that is to buy one more of the sidepanels without window then grab an lcd that i like in the size and just cut out the right size, the side panels are compatible on both sides (atleast at the obsidian 900d) so you dont have to bother you to find the best fitting one, plus side, you can leave the 5,25" bays and hard drive bays covered,
@ImmodderNation
@ImmodderNation 5 жыл бұрын
That's a great idea, thank you. Corsair will probably sell me an extra panel as well and hopefully they work on both sides. Im hoping we don't have to take this route and we find an LCD that works for Llama.
