how does it do as far as sound proofing - trying not to bother neighbors.
@officialWWM2 жыл бұрын
@@itsmintvanilla it helps but if really depends how load you sing. A booth isn’t for sound proofing, it’s for sound treatment. They are 2 different things. It will help cut down a few db but you will still be able to hear someone singing in there from the outside.

Radio presenter and voiceover artist here, smile when you talk and speak passed the mic not directly into it. Keep water in a bottle next to you, ensure your nasal cavity is not swollen or congested. Clear your throat and chest. Use deep hums to warm up your vocal cords, shorten your S’s an T’s. When reading a script pre-read and memorise 2-3 sentences ahead.

You can try ordinary throw blankets, 2 or 3 per side, and even hang some robes and shirts around for extra deadening!

Yep. I did the same thing. Mom had one of those 4 panel things with hinges between the panels. It was like those rice paper changing dividers the movie stars of the 50’s would change behind trying to be sexy. Had the moving blankets and a van shelf covered with those clamps. I found the tripod vocal stands unstable but the ones with the round cast iron base did the trick. Bought an iPad stand mount and had lyrics scrolling. Fold it up, put in closet.

This seems like it will work perfectly for my studio setup.I wanted to make one with the pvc pipe frame, however my space is so small and due to where my closet is located. This should do nicely. I’ve ordered my blankets. Price has gone up significantly since the airing of this video. Thanks for the great video!

Question though. When you have it completely closed, what do you do for light in the booth? I imagine it’s a bit dark.
@PatrickBreenMusic2 жыл бұрын
I use this light: amzn.to/3TBjuKa It's battery powered but can also run off of a usb c cable. VERY bright, especially for how small the light is. You can attach it to a little hand-held tripod and clamp it up into one of the corners of the vocal booth. OR you can use tape it up somewhere haha.

Life saver! I started going back to school for animation. We only have like two sound booths in the entire school (it's really the music department's booth, but depending on the project and availability, they'll let the animation students reserve it as well). 9 times out of 10, it's always booked lol So that always leaves me with trying to record the voice over on my phone inside the closet. As you could imagine, the sound is TERRIBLE. Ruins the entire animation project sometimes! SO, I have been looking for cost effective alternatives, and I stumbled upon your video. THANKS for the straight-to-the-point content, the thorough explanation, and example as well. It'll save me now in the future. 🙏

But what about how dead the overall tone sounds? I tried this and noticed small rooms destroy natural tone. It comes through aggressively in your awesome voice too. All I could imagine was how it would sound even better than it does and more bright in a decently treated larger room. Have you actually tested the metrics? I’m curious myself
@PatrickBreenMusic3 жыл бұрын
I don't have a larger room to acoustically treat. This isn't perfect sounding by any means. It's meant to be a solution for at-home musicians, producers, vocalists who are trying to get a solid vocal sound on a budget.

@christianmccauley734011 ай бұрын
Might not be perfect, but it’s probably pretty solid. I mean, think about it. If you hold a normal blanket in front of your face and sing, the sound proofing is already pretty good. These blankets were basically designed to soak up noise, so it should be solid

Great video! And thank you for taking the time to teach us all how to do this. I’m curious about something though. Your blankets aren’t going all the way down to the ground. They couldn’t be I mean. The one that makes the roof would have to be at least 115 inches long to accomplish this, yet the link says your blanket is only 80 inches (I think). Even the one hanging from the hooks that wraps around wouldn’t be long enough to hit the floor as you need at least 83 inches there. So it that not important? Thanks!!!!

I left the outside "walls" off and placed moving blankets on all five sides. Got myself a 10M led strip for the inside and some bass traps in the corners and foam on the inside off the blankets. Super easy set-up for recording with my D18 and singing at the same time straight into my iPhone using the Roland Go Pro mix. Call me cheap but I just love my little "tent" inside my basement. Not bad. I was thinking of getting some dirt cheap1/4 inch wood. Then putting some hinges on them, make it foldable like a slinky. Then attach these harbor freight moving blankets onto them. Then have a latch that flips up and seals the top. Or buy a nice set of the foam pads from amazon. It's like 40 bucks for 48 slabs. Look allot nicer, and look more pro. And work well.But, I may go all out and combine them both lol.

Question: does this setup also reduce the noise of me being inside the home made booth? I have a very thin ceiling and sometimes even me talking a little louder in the evening can be heard by the neighbours above. Not a singer but a VR gamer, so all I need is to reduce the sound I am making ( basically just talking a little louder and laughing) so my neighbours won't hear me upstairs.
