A Cheap DIY PVC Vocal Booth? Is it possible to build your own? Yes!
In fact, so many people have contacted us about how to build their own PVC vocal booth that we thought we'd share an in-depth walk-through on how to build one for yourself. We're going over what tools and materials you will need, and some other tips and tricks on making your vocal booth the best it can be. Our PVC pipe vocal booth example in this video features an 8 pole step-through door design, with no break half-way that utilizes 3-way connectors. We understand that 3-way connectors may be hard to get so we offer an alternative. We go through the assembly and build of the booth and blanket installation. There's also a sound test which we've experimented with so you don't have to test a single or double-layered booth yourself.

Hi there, I’ve bought my pipes and sound blankets from VBTG. I’ve recently been using the boiler cupboard which is small but has been very well insulated. My problem now is that if I stay in this space my booth can only be 82cm x 95cm. My question is, although small will it affect the sound negatively being so small? Or, should I build a bigger booth to go into an untreated bedroom? Thanks

i have been looking at a quick easy way to do something like this and i thought of buying a Gas Cylinder Cage or some kind of metal cage and then simply putting blankets over the top and putting a small laptop table and mic inside it to use to block out noise. what do you think

Great video and this seems to be a good solution for stopping the reflections. However, one question, does this decrease the sound that comes out when you record? This booth would good for blocking out about 10dB of sound while also removing the reverb and echo from your recordings. We actually making a video to answer that exact . In reality you do not have to glue it. Iy just makes the structure prone to collapse if you do not push the connectors all the way in. I'm almost at the point where I'm buying this! I'm starting my own voice acting studio at home and my desk is inside a big room with a high ceiling so the option with the PVC pipes and blankets suits me well. Only a few questions: 1. I have consulted with many sound designer friends, they think that for the highs and echo the blankets can do the job but for the lows, it can get messy and my recording could sound "muddy", so without disrespecting, are the blankets to your professional opinion is comparable to a "proper" sound studio with styrofoam/Rockwool and other absorption material on the walls? 2.a Does the size of the booth makes a difference in the sound? 3. I have an idea. When I order, can I request that one blanket (for the celling) will have the grommets on all sides of the blanket so I can attach the ends of the blankets with shower curtain hooks? (so it will be really stretched above it and not loose) 4. I have also an idea to make a "door" and in the entrance to just glue some magnets so it will be kind of closed. What do you think about it?

The pvc booth can be made of any size. If you are interested in specific dimensions, send us an email request and i will send you a formula, where you can enter the final dimensions and it will calculate the size of all parts and suggested quantity of grommets. And finally where in the UK you can get the PVC pipes? I would assume that any plumbing shop would carry them.

Hi, 1) Which pvc cutter are you using? I searched on internet and there are so many I got very confused. Can't go and examine them in the shop due to lockdown. 2)Your list mentions pvc glue, but you didn't use any. Is it compulsory? 3) If glue is used, will the structure remain collapsible?
@Vocalboothtogo
@Vocalboothtogo 3 жыл бұрын
Hello. This was a demo video . That is why we did not use glue. We did show at one point how to use it. Is the glue compulsory? I should probably put together a video of cutouts to show what happens when the frame is not glued together. It just falls apart when you try to hang blankets on it. Once you glue parts together you will not be able to take them apart. The pipe cutter? We actually used a saw to cut the pipes. It is much faster. Hack saw or jigsaw work well. If you are thinking of disasembling the frame i suggest to only glue the top and base frames and se duct tape to secure vertical supports.

"Normal summer blankets" I assume are light duvet? What is normal summer blankets? The Producer's Choice Blankets are filled with cotton and are very heavy. If you find something like this, then yes. @@programmingwithsarah409 in this video we used our Producer's Choice Blankets. You can get them at www.vocalboothtogo.com I understand, that you are looking for a substitute, but whatever you are planning to use will need to have sufficient sound absorption efficacy and weight. Very funny! :) there is no risk of suffocation there because the blankets are not air tight For acoustic blankets to absorb sound they have to allow the sound to get in. You can actually breath right through the blanket. It does het warm in there though. So we offer a quiet ventilation fan on our site: www.vocalboothtogo.com/product/quiet-ventilation-fan-muffler/ We also have the speed controller. If you reduce the speed the fan becomes practically inaudible.

Depending on the brand of glue you get. Some have primer and glue and some are primer and glue together. If you use the first option then apply the primer on the parts that supposed to be glued first. This removes any dirt and oils. Then apply yhe glue and insert the pipe into connectors. If the glue and primer are all in one, then you only need to apply it one tims and insert.

I've been planning to build a booth according to this video for quite a while, and I'm finally about to pull the trigger on it. I'm a bit concerned about the space inside the booth, and was hoping to make it a bit more spacious to fit a shelf or small table for my laptop and potentially a music stand or something similar from which to read a tablet as I record. In order to give the booth a bit of a bigger "footprint" and make it more spacious inside, I would just have to cut all 7 of the 27" pieces of PVC pipe to be a bit longer, is that correct? Thanks so much for posting the guide!

Hello Jamie: we have created a special calculator, that will give you the size of all cuts depending on the final size of your booth. Please see the pinned comment. Not sure I understand: are they falling AFTER you assemble it or IN THE PROCESS? If it is After, then you need to glue them together. If it us in the process, then you also need to glue them together. The steps are: 1) Assemble the base without glue, make sure all parts are correct. The T and L connectors are facing up. 2) pull the parts one by one, glue and fit back together. No rush. The glue will catch within seconds. 3) assemble and glue the top the same way. 4) connect verticals. 5).place the too rectangle on top of the vertical posts It should work.

Bueller took a day off. :) I am not sure how SDR-26 will behave. I think you can test it. From what I know "26" means that the thickness of the wall is 26 times less than diameter. @ChadBetTheFarm
@ChadBetTheFarm 4 жыл бұрын
The biggest thing when trying to reduce room reverb or echo is using mass to trap the sound you make. Having two blankets mean sound has to go through two blankets then off a wall then back through two blankets before it reaches the mic. In general the more mass the better as it's more or less impossible to have too much sound absorption.
