Interesting. I want to make one myself..But I wish there was a video showing you how to actually make a battery pack. I have searched 100s of videos and they are all the same. Add the batteries, add the BMS board and it's done!!! Which wire goes where? On the BMS what is P+ P- Exactly where and why? What is the tape you use? If this video was an hour long and it took you step by step for dummies. I would watch the whole thing.! 🙂

I have subscribed and watching all your nice videos. I have 3 cheaper PWM controllers and the last one I bought this Perfect Suiter PWM controller. I have 300W- 24 V solar panels I have bought over 100 recycled laptop batteries and spent hundreds of hours in charging and discharging with smart chargers and Imax B6 charger. I have made 5 battery packs starting from 3S 5P to 4s 15P packs. I just finished building my first 7S 21P battery pack. But my cheaper blue PWM and this Perfect suiter controllers are charging my 4S packs up to 13.7V only and stops there. my 4S pack can receive up to 16 .8V but I do not understand how to do that. I am frustrated and in a desperate situation. My 13.7V packs work for a few hours only and dying. Please guide me and many thanks for your help.
@WesThatTechGuy
@WesThatTechGuy 5 жыл бұрын
what brand is the cheaper blue PWM controller? Can it charge to 16.8v and if so you will need to program it to do so. It's best if you can afford to get an MPPT controller. This will help too. It could be that your controller is just bad or needs programming. Hard to say without know what controller how many amps and volts etc. Hope this helps.

Is a bms really necessary. I've built a 24v pack from old laptop batteries and I've added a small volt meter to asses the voltage at all times.
@WesThatTechGuy
@WesThatTechGuy 5 жыл бұрын
Depends on the application and the amount of energy being put into and taken out of the battery pack. People have their own opinions on this subject but safety is a key issue when using a BMS, if you can or want to constantly be looking over your shoulder while using the pack then don't use the BMS but if y9ou want to enjoy your nights sleep you might want the BMS.

@@WesThatTechGuy it's for a kids electric scooter. I agree, the Bms would satisfy my safety concerns. I've ordered one, a 24v 6s bms. If I put 30v through the bms, would it still limit the battery to 25v?
@WesThatTechGuy
@WesThatTechGuy 5 жыл бұрын
If you put 30v to a 25v bms the bms will shut down the charge once it reaches the 25v. the purpose of the BMS is to protect the battery from being over charged.

@seanmikhaels
@seanmikhaels 5 жыл бұрын
Mark Cooper Agree, there could be tons of improvements, but i think its a good start. That particular BMS has a high current shut off i believe, and short circuit protection built in, but always wouldn’t hurt to be 100% safe and add some fuses to protect each cell from blowing up.
@Nitrxgen
@Nitrxgen 5 жыл бұрын
Well... that BMS is designed for 3S and he does actually connect it the way it's intended, for the most part, with 4 nickel strips connecting to each end set of parallels. You can't really balance each cell per parallel because... they're parallel, they're connected to each other. The length of each strip may impact how balanced it is over time but those nickel strips should be pretty good while I reckon. I'm not a fan of this particular video but I dunno if I can fault him that much. I would've done a better job attaching the BMS and output cables though. I would've gotten a less cheap BMS perhaps with the wires already attached.

Hello Wes That Tech Guy, I made my first 3s batterypack few days ago. Using 3 x 4 = 12 cells. I did not solder or weld them. I used the spring loaded 3 cell plastic containers, and glued them back to back opposite directions. No cell touches eachother. But from the top and bottom I attached lot of wires, positives, negatives, and balance wires that goes together to the BMS at one end. Then I ducktaped the whole thing. I am using it to run powerful 100watt LEDs on my bike. Is it safe so far?

You are not controlling the state of each cell, so you just make the same mistake everyone does. Once one or more individual cells give it up, your battery is gone, leaving good cells out of order. This means you are just copying the bad habits of before. You NEED control of each cell individually.
@WesThatTechGuy

Hi Wes, I just found your channel and this video. I love the battery you built in this video and am wondering if you can help me? I live in Toronto, Canada. Finding LiOn battery building equipment and supplies here is proving to be very difficult. I have an electric Chopper motorbike that I bought. It's made in China, like everything! The batteries that came with the bike are lead acid, had great power, they are a combined 72Volts. I need to replace the batteries completely. Ive had the bike for 4 years, this year I wasn't able to drive it because of trying to get batteries because of covid was incredibly difficult, and when they were available the cost was stupid. Since I bought the bike I have thought that LiOn would be a much better power source and have wanted to switch over, but the cost to buy the batteries needed is incredible if I buy them already built, which is posing to be one of the biggest problems yet. Noone seems to manufacture 72V batteries, so, I'm thinking to build it myself. However I have no experience in building batteries, and don't want to screw my bike up. I also want to install a regenerating system so that as I drive the motion of driving could generate electricity that could simultaneously charge while driving. Again, having no experience in this I need help. The help I'm needing is: 1. Where can I get the supplies to build the battery for the bike? 2. Where can I get the info on building the battery? 3. Will I need to build a charger or is there something on the market I can buy for charging the battery? 4. And finally, how would I go about building a motion operated regenerating system that can be easily attached to the bike? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated! Thank You! -Matt

Aren''t you afraid that the batteries in parallel could not be charge properly knowing that the bms doesnt have the voltage of each cells ?
@WesThatTechGuy
@WesThatTechGuy 5 жыл бұрын
the bms does have the voltage of each series of cells. either way the series won't exceed the required voltage. the cells will balance themselves out between the series. You can't affordably or even effectively balance each cell in a pack like this. You can however for a simple 13s or 15s ebike pack because they are built in series not parallel. 1p13s etc. If this was a pack like that then YES each cell would be monitored. I have 300a BMS that's the size of a cake and it doesn't even balance every cell only every series of cells.

too many variables to answer here. Check your balance leads. also some BMS will show incorrect voltage if the balance leads are not correctly wired in series.

Yes it does. This is a common port BMS, You could add another positive wire to have 1 for load and 1 for charge so you don't have to unplug to charge. Or you can get a dual port BMS. 1 for charge and 1 for load.

Can I crank safely with out hurting the bms or the batteries? And do I need any other changes on my motorcycle? I know my regulator/rectifier puts out about 12 to 13.5 volts as acceleration increases will there be any fail on bms charging? Since change in voltage. Sorry to bother you with too many questions but this battery looks promising. Thanks for your help much appreciated.

thanks for watching and subbing! this should be ok to crank but not sure about the amperage of your regulator. You would need to know the max amperage output of your regulator. this pack will handle an easy 200a discharge but the bms is to small for that. Hope this helps.
