I'm excited for you. How did it go? Maybe you could post a video just talking about what surprises or other learning experiences you had. There are always some "little things" that we discover that don't get mentioned in videos by people that are highly experienced and forget that we don't all know some of the "obvious" stuff.

I want to add to this. NEW BUILDERS! Don't panic when your PC doesn't POST, especially on Ryzen. It can take a couple of minutes to POST at times and may even restart/reset a few times before it goes to BIOS. It might only take 15 seconds, it might take 3 minutes. Just give it at least 5 minutes before you start troubleshooting anything.

Power-On Self Test.
@S.ASmith
@S.ASmith 6 жыл бұрын
Power On Self Test - It's the boot cycle your computer does for the very first time when you power it on. It detects all the hardware (or at least most of it), and you usually have to hit the Enter or DEL key to go to the BIOS. Sometimes it will not pick up all of your RAM, but a simple restart or changing RAM slots/reseating it, can resolve these issues normally.

Thank you for mentioning this. It's things like that a person really needs to know, more than some of the other things some You Tubers get very involved with, such as cable management or how to screw something down. Paul does some of the best how-to videos but what may seem obvious, or otherwise gets overlooked, can actually be the things we noobs will get hung up on. For me, how long to wait for something to happen is a biggie. It is very helpful to know if something is "normal" or if it's time to realize this thing isn't working.

@FurNaxxYT
@FurNaxxYT 6 жыл бұрын
Before I posted this comment the 2600 was previously at a little over $200, it dropped to $165 which is why I posted about it because for most, the $200 price tag wasn't worth the 9% increase in performance. As for that budget, you can easily shave off $20 from this build by simply not getting an $80 tempered glass case..

Suggestion: Look at all the cables on the Case. Write down the labels from the plugs on a piece of paper. Then open the motherboard manual and find the drawing of all the connectors. Go down the written list and write in the label on the motherboard that appears to match the plug labels. This helps you line things up and might help with cable routing.

I took the link to this build (from Pauls previous video) and subbed in the parts he used in this video with PCPartPicker: bit.ly/2vpP8B8 Unfortunately, the GPU, Case and CPU are much more in Canadian dollars :( Also Sadly, I noticed that the Motherboard was not in stock or available on Canadain sites for some reason. The cheapest ATX board with Wifi (ACK) is about $277 CAD. which then drives the build to a total of $1582 CAD tax included. If you wanted a less expensive board you there quite a few to pick from with out the wifi. This one, for example, ASRock - X370 Killer SLI is at $119 right now. Saves you about $171CAD. Anyway, there are some numbers for ya :D

IbeStrikezx Thanks for following Up! 1500 is much more reasonable for this build. I'll send you a link to my parts that Im saving for and Id like to know what you think about it vs Paul's build. Note that it also incluses a Mouse, keyboard and monitor. And this build was made to be easily upgraded. ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/WwdqBb For ~1500$ everything is better except for the SSD

Precisely GreenInferno, I figured I wan't to build something that will put me on the bleeding edge of performance for at least a few years without needing any upgrades. Its important that we appreciate all setups though, big and small, budget or overkill, custom sleeved cables or ketchup and mustard, none of it should matter as long as we're all proud of our setups.

650 W Power supply????? Just why
@iguanac6466
@iguanac6466 6 жыл бұрын
Because if you actually do power calcs on that system, you'll realize that you're WAY below 650W. The power calc I ran on it says it only uses 415W at load and only recommends a 465W PSU. Add to the fact it's a gold PSU so it's more power efficient. For my personal builds, though, I like to buy a bronze PSU that's double the load wattage. There's a bell curve on the power efficiency. At about half load, even bronze PSUs don't waste much energy. If you're on a strict budget and you need to save that money, or put into a more critical part (CPU/Memory/GPU), buying a 650W PSU is fine.
@cagdasyildirim2118
@cagdasyildirim2118 6 жыл бұрын
@@iguanac6466 IMO a budget build should focus on price performance. Like u said a 650gold PSU is waste of money in this budget build. Not to mention the 100 bucks case with RGB. I rather spend that money on a display Peace

Back in the 90's I bought a friend's old used 386 system and taught myself how to upgrade and also how to build from the ground up. Did that for about 20 years and a short-notics job change and relocation caused me to buy a factory-built computer. NEVER AGAIN! I know that building is more expensive but I have the satisfaction of knowing what's inside the machine and am more closely tied to its inner workings.

I have worked on PCs before but never built one entirely from "scratch" This is a very cool system and I really enjoyed the video. Thing is that all the videos I have seen are for building gaming systems. I would like to see videos for recommendations for systems built for more common home/office applications. Even systems for dedicated purposes like for hobbies (e.g. Ham Radio, photography/video, Flight simulator, systems for testing and diagnosing other systems, etc.)

That PSU method is good! I have always used PSU for grounding, just plug it to a wall. Fan will not spin but it will work as "sink to ground".. Touch it occasionally, you can plug the PSU then to PC when you are complete

Good looking mid-range build! Paul, you should however show people how to rotate the AMD logo, I imagine it can be pretty triggering to some people (me included). It's basically removing the shield and 4 screws and you can rotate the fan 360 degrees to any orientation.

Just a side note on your lighting, it seems to me you need to split that lighting up and diffuse them... I can see the shine on your head. It would be wise to go with 3 lighting source, one from your left, one from your right and one directing directly to the item you're trying to focus on IMO....
