for anyone struggling with things that are stackable to 16: each item is 4 times the weight for the redstone hopper, so 1 egg/ender pearl/etc = 4 normal stackable items. So since 23 total items trigger the 2nd redstone, we need to get to 23. I have found that it is necessary to have 2 of the items you want to sort in the hopper so my recommendation is: 2 ender pearl/egg/etc | 4 sorter | 4 sorter | 3 sorter | 3 sorter. (= 22 so one more item will flow it to the chest)

For anyone planning to make this in a survival world, make sure you plan for each section to be 7 blocks deep NOT 6 as he says as he says. The total depth of the area BEHIND the very front chests is 6 which is what he was talking about I believe. But including the fact that they are double chests and part of them is in the wall you need 7 total blocks of room (including the wall). I ran into this problem while trying to make a double sided version and I only gave myself 13 blocks of room (6 + 6 + 1 extra in the middle so the redstone doesn't cross)

My first stack is dirt for a test run.. it's filling up as expected... But then it gets to the top where the comparator is and it breaks.. the comparator hopper is setup like so / 1 X item / 1 unique item / 1 unique item / 1 unique item / 41 unique items. / But then the X item, dirt in this case gets to 64 because it can't unload anywhere I guess so that causes the unique items to dump to the next comparator hopper.. and that breaks that stack ..

Is that what I'm doing wrong? I'm putting in 4 stacks of 5 bamboo named "LLL" then usually a full stack of the item I want sorted. Only to find the unique bamboo filters down. awesome!! I've been doing a ton of modded here lately and my wife and I just started a vanilla server with our friends. My passion in Minecraft has always been automation along with building, so I wanted the heart of my base to be an item sorting system with visible water tunnels set in the paths between my builds so you can see the items coming from the various farms all flowing toward the sorter. The biggest issue was, I couldn't remember the configuration for the comparator section after all this time! glad to see it's still being used, though I like the improvements you've added to it. I used to use sticks as my sorting item, but I can see the benefits of using an item that stacks to 64 instead! Better control over the number items left in the sorter, and less of a chance that something with an odd stack size breaks everything and you end up sit sorting sticks in a chest followed by everything else that's been put in after it! Sooo, many times I had to get back into the guts of my sorter to fix that issue. . . lol

I made this in 1.19 and I love it. The modularity is great. You can build as many sections as you want, and you can go around corners by using a water stream or hoppers. I made a big 'U' shape in my base.
@Twallrion2 жыл бұрын
It keeps randomly breaking for me. Seems to happen more if I move away during sorting. I'll return to two chest full of my filler item and random items in the chest.. hopper empty. And yes, I'm only putting in 2 of 3 of the sorted item
@SouloHigh2 жыл бұрын
@@Twallrion Hmmm... tough to say without seeing, but I thought of a couple of things to check: 1. Have you renamed all of your filler items? 2. Are your filler items an item that can be stacked to 64? Items that make stacks of 16 are "heavier" 3. You need to put in 3 of the sorted items at first, because one item get sucked down into the hopper below. That means you have 2 sorted items, and 4 stacks-of-5 filler items in the hopper connected to the comparator, and one item gets stuck in the hopper below. The hopper below the hopper connected to the comparator is the one that is actually locked, and when the items flow in they create a signal that powers the comparator out and turns off the torch unlocking the hopper underneath. (It's hard to describe, hopefully you understand what I mean) It could also be that you are going outside of your simulation distance, and that is messing with the redstone signals.
@JamesCovington5 ай бұрын
I built this. Things I ran into are it is a dropper, not a dispenser (I learned this the hard way with all bottles being turned into water bottles...). The dimensions he gives is not accurate like others have said. Build a small section first instead of trying to build it all in one go. The reason for the kelp is it makes the falling water into full water blocks. From my experience with item sorters is that they can overflow, so I went with is a item sorter with 41 items and 4 filter items, which obviously you'd have to modify his design a tad. One thing I'd recommend is late game you get shulkers and most likely fill your ender chest with them. What I do is I have some that I call junk where I just put stuff to make more space in my inventory. It'd be a good idea to incorporate dropping your "junk" shulkers off, grabbing new ones, and come back with them empty. Just be warned in order to do this you have to have an on/off switch otherwise if you break the shulker it will get collected by the hoppers. Also, imo, there is no reason not to do 8 blocks long instead of the 5 he does. Less pillars and more space to store. Also the pillars can be converted into chests also that you feed one side of the chests in. You don't get a lot more chests but you get some.

it is quite simple to fix, instead of: Blank | Dust | Comparator Dust | Block | Block Block | Repeater | Block | Torch you do: Blank | Dust | Dust | Comparator Dust | Block | Block | Block Block | Repeater | Block | Torch essentially you push the whole mechanism back one block so that there is an extra restone dust between the comparator and the repeater, then instead of doing 3-5-5-5-5 in the sorting hopper, you do 64-1-1-1-1 and the first slot should empty out until its 41-1-1-1-1. adding the extra redstone dust makes it so that even if the first slot has a full stack of items in it, the comparators signal strength never bleeds into the lines adjacent causing the filters to leak out and break the system! if you need visual example heres a link to a video on it that has stood the test of time: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHnNiIx5eb59atU i personally use some of both in my sorting system, expensive items than i know will pretty much never fill the system like diamonds and netherite, i use the one shown in the video because it only takes 3 of that item to sort it out, but for pretty much everything else im a fan of the overflow protection, keep in mind that when using both types there must be a gap between the different types of sorter, or the sorting system with overflow protection WILL break the one without overflow protection immediately

And you have to have a piece of nugget in each of the remaining four slots (if there is an empty slot in the hopper it will mess it up). At around 4:00 you say this should fit (mostly) in a 6Wx9H rectangle. Am I completely insane (possibly) or should it be 7Wx7H?

I'm on a crossplay server, redstone is java-based. The redstone for the item filters would break for me If I try to replicate how you made it, however I got it to work by extending the redstone by one more block coming out of the comparator (so the torch ends up underneath the comparator's supporting block in the end, not underneath the hopper) This way it didn't break anymore, although I have single separated filtering units, can't say what happens if you have them connected....gotta work with a 30 hoppers per chunk limit....

Hey, I've just finished upto 14:25 and for some reason when putting things in the chest to go and get sorted when going through the filter it removes the Sorter nuggets from the hoppers and the items are going into and then any and all items go into those chests since there are no sorters in the hoppers anymore. Haven't done anything different to you apart from scale it. Anyone know how to fix this?

I just built this in survival and its awesome! One quick question though. Will travelling far enough to unload the chunk or going into the nether break the sorting? Or do I have to wait for it to complete? Many thanks!

i keep on having an issue where the filter breaks and all the items just end up funneling into 1 chest stack, any ideas?
@nathanlarg90482 жыл бұрын
I had this. Items were stacking at the top of the input tube, I added a few repeaters to the clock to get the dropper to fire slower and that fixed it for me

Its really easy when the item count reacher 45 in a hopper the comparator will get more power and it will turn off the redstone torch and the redstone torch will turn off the hopper lock hopper gives the item and the hopper locks again because the power decreased

Great video and explanation as always :) One question though, is it possible to build around corners to make the system more compact or would items get stuck?

I ended up just making some modules that are next to each other that the shulker Boxes of non stackables goes into. I can open the shulker box pull out the items that belong in that slice and hit a button it then sends the shulker box to the next slice. I go through three double chests of shulker boxes pulling out that one particular item then move myself over to the next slice and do the same thing . I only have slices for stuff that I actually want to keep everything else goes into a lava pit seems to be way faster than waiting around for the allay. I'm able to go threw my raid farm storage fast and not have to wait for the allay to get my totems ready

I have a little problem with this. Whenever I start putting the sortable items in the input chest, a short time later the sorting machine kinda breaks. A few of the renamed iron nuggets go through the hoppers into the chests. Can you tell me how I fix this? I play on a server btw :) Thank u :)

Make sure the repeaters delay is set to 3 ticks like I show in the video (the repeater that is connected to the original dispenser)

@Jules-mt1xz2 жыл бұрын
@@Einfachanders I hope this helps you because it fixed mine. If you look up another video on item sorters you might notice that they add one more block behind the comparators when building the redstone (it goes comparator, block with redstone, block with redstone, and then go down one block with redstone(you will also need to shift the bottom part by one block)). This will make so that the redstone can’t activate other hoppers on either side of it. You will however also need to fill the top hoppers with 20 place holders (like in this video) and 26 of the item you want sorted instead of 3.

what is your strategy for organizing after new items come out? Like for example what if I had this setup and cherry blocks come out? How do you insert additional sections so it is properly organized?
