The reason that so many medieval houses gradually expanded on higher levels is actually because of tax reasons. Medieval housing taxes were based on the ground area covered by the lowest floor of a building, so making higher floors larger than lower floors was a way to have a larger house without paying more taxes. Edit:houses, I forgot to write houses

omg thats so clever, thanks for the info !
@actuallydudethatwouldbesal76444 жыл бұрын
very interesting, good to keep in mind when building regions of different wealth. poorer places will have more buildings taking advantage of this while wealthier places have larger, straighter houses.
@thomashongshagen49124 жыл бұрын
@@actuallydudethatwouldbesal7644 I believe you can even see this in poorer residential districts and several commercial districts: peasants and merchants both need more space than they want to spend on taxes, peasants because they can't afford it, and merchants because they don't always live in their stores

dunno if you have a name for it decided, but In German, obst means fruit, and I feel like an apple or some orchard would be nice, so I'd like to suggest Obstfurt for the name. The reason why it's in German is because most of your building style is Germanic

Love these tutorials, I think another cool idea would be instead of doing just 1 build talk about overarching topics like texture variation, palettes, roof shapes, interior design and so on! Overall great video!
@conall24264 жыл бұрын
Can you make an interior design video. Mostly focusing on medieval, and older styles. How you make just that first interior look so compact and almost cluttered look is really cool ( i just perceive it as cluttered) but whatever it is your interiors always look really good.

For the next tutorial I’d like to see a block by block tutorial of your mountain range! Jokes aside, great video as always and happy to see a medieval tutorial!

I do a lot of turn of the century and mid-century building, and have dabbled in brutalist and gothic architecture, but I am finally getting around to building a medieval zone in my survival world and it is totally out of my confort zone. Spent quite some time building this OUTSIDE of the zone to use for cues and inspiration. Because like any decent builder, I want to make my buildings unique, but I like a lot of the design concepts in this build so it should help me get a few unique building types to scatter around my medieval zone. Thank ya fWhip. This one is a beauty...but also - a PAIN to build in survival even with scaffolding. 😂

As for the overhanging bits, I believe they are referred to as jettying or something. In addition to making the space bigger, it also helps preventing floor sag, by changing where the load of the walls is pushing downwards.

Good to know thank you kind sir

The overhanging bits, I believe, were referred to as "stacking" (you think I'm trolling because this is a minecraft video, but I promise I'm not). I've visited the medieval city York tons of times, and there's lots of crooked, stacked buildings all over the city centre.
