Great video, I hope you post more like this! I'm hoping to build my first house from scratch using ICF within the next year, it'll be a lot to learn!

Thanks! We're planning on doing more of these simple instructional videos. I'm glad you found it helpful! As you continue to learn and plan for your house, take a look at our training website training.buildblock.com/ and company website buildblock.com/ for more information.

Best and most informative ICF video I've seen yet. Is there much difference between using 6 inch core vs. 8 inch, other than the amount of concrete used? In other words would the greater volume of an 8 inch core ICF be more likely to cause a failure in the wall?
@BuildBlockICF5 жыл бұрын
No, the 8" core is just more concrete which therefore provides more strength and bearing surface. It's used in all kinds of applications but we probably see it most in below-grade construction. The added concrete performs very well with the added pressure of backfill. Thanks for watching!

Lots of great content in here, but could do without the background music.

I want more detail on attaching a garage door. It seems to be hard to attach a track to foam. Would you recommend hardpoints? Can you eliminate the wood that frames the garage door opening which always rots at the base on every house I've seen?

Are you only offsetting the rebar from 3 to 1? on each course.

It appears you modeled this project in SketchUp. Are the BuildBlock and alignment system components available for download? Thank you.

How is the verticle rebar set to the #5 vert rebar embedded in the footing? I belive code is something like an overlap of 20 times the diameter of the rebar, and i wonder how the vert lengths get added when the icf's are stacked up several courses? My future plan is to use icf's with either fiberglass or basalt rebar and tie them to the horizontal rebar with nylon cable ties.
@BuildBlockICF5 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott. Vertical rebar will extend from the footing into the ICF wall. The height at which it extends is determined by the location, rebar size, and site considerations. After the wall is stacked, vertical rebar is placed into the wall, connecting to the dowels that are extending from the footing. This video (starting at 4:00) explains rebar in footings kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJmsZpacj9B_fMk. And this video (starting at 3:00) explains a little more about reinforcement in ICF walls kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJmsZpacj9B_fMk. Thanks for stopping by!

I’d suggest adding a roof

How did you secure the wall bracing to the garage floor? Did you drilling into the concrete floor?
@BuildBlockICF3 жыл бұрын
Hi DJ, in this example it could be done a few ways. Many people will drill into the concrete slab to connect the bracing anchor foot. If you are concerned about drilling into concrete, some people will use spray foam adhesive to attach a piece of 2x4 to the slab and then connect the anchor foot to that. With this method, the slab can be scraped clean after the bracing system is disassembled. You can learn more here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZ-oZ2yIfcmMn6c

How do you run your rebar when you have an 18' garage door with roof load above?
@drchamp19025 жыл бұрын
What’s the best way to connect an ICF wall section with a 2x4 stud wall, specifically if the wall needs to continue as a single flat surface. Appreciate any references.
@BrianKrahmer3 жыл бұрын
i'm planning to do this in my next build, and i will use a few foundation bolts (j-bolts) to bolt the framed wall to the concrete. alternatively, you could also use a bunch of anchor bolts

How about a concrete flat (mostly flat) roof?
@BuildBlockICF5 жыл бұрын
That's easily accomplished with ICFs. We recommend our BuildDeck ICF Deck and Roofing system which extends the benefits of ICFs into your roof. buildblock.com/products/builddeck-floor-roofing/ A flat roof is simple but a concrete pitched roof is also easily accomplished.

@@BuildBlockICF Could these be used for a garage floor if there was a basement under the garage ? Thank you.

@@BuildBlockICF same question as above. Looking to build a 60x40x12 shop with a 40x40x10 basement underneath. The slab over the basement will have cars and 2 post lifts.

Hi…getting schooled up on using your product for a garage that I am building. In the future…please get rid of the music. It serves no purpose and it interferes with trying to pay attention to the information you are putting out. Thank you…
