Got one for $400 with disc brakes 🥲 had to change the wheel bearings and installed a nonslip locker, came with the same gear ratio as in front 3.73, it me took like 2 years to find.

A yj for 3k is only able to be found in certain zip codes, some will be rusted to crap, the seats alone are $1500 shipped. The budget of $10k for all of that is not realistic unless you have a shop, tools, experience with gear setups or patience, and live in Cali where you can pick up parts from the manufacturer on scratch and dent. Labor for a locker install is $750+ alone most places. I’m super jealous of the deals that can be had in SoCal

Yeah, doing it cheap does involve some tools and know how. I was also collecting parts over the past couple years knowing someday I'd be doing this.

The NP 231 T-case used with the Dana 30 CAD did not have a "true neutral". When the passenger side axel is replaced with the one piece axel it will cause driveshaft wind up when flat towing with the T-case in neutral. the only time the front and rear driveshafts are dicsonnected from each other is in two high. This can be fixed by replacing the YJ selector cam in the T-case with one from a TJ. Do this and you'll have a "true neutral". I flat tow mine with the solid passenger side axel, and the TJ selector cam with the T-case in neutral, and the transmission in 5th gear.

Right on. Nice to see the mighty YJ gettin some love. Mine's a 95 with the 4.0L with 275000 kilometers on the odo. If that motor ever gives up the ghost I'm sticking another one right back in there.

Tony, that YJ most likely came with the Peugeot BA10/5 transmission. It's an absolute terrible transmission. If that is in there, it needs to go because it would be even worse than leaving the Dana 35 rear axle in the Jeep. The trans internals will likely break and the internal slave cylinder will leak and ruin the clutch. Also it probably has the 21 spline output going into the transfer case instead of the 23 spline. Can't wait to see how the rest of the build goes. Thanks for the videos!

I have the Peugeot trans in my '89 and its holding up great. As long as you match your axles gear ratio to the tire size (don't half ass things and put huge tires on with stock gears) the trans won't be taking on extra, unnecessary stress

What do you think about putting in a snorkel and breathers on the axles as well as upgrading the engine from a 4.0 to a 4.7 stroker. Is it worth it if your building an all purpose street and trails YJ 4x4. Also what size gear axle would you recommend for the front axle? UNDER DOG would be a good nickname for the YJ.

After watching this video I went ahead and ordered an AGR gearbox and pump for my Jeep. Boy, I could kick myself. I paid way too much for a naturally aspirated 88 YJ Sahara trim. the interior is almost perfect, but the paint is pretty rough. Inline 6 .runs out great. I bought it to resell but, I like it and have driven it some but it's sat allot. I'm driving it now though. I paid too much for it I feel because they're rare where I live. My issue is that I doubt I can get out of it what I paid for it. I might have to take a hit. So, I'm considering building it instead of selling it but, I'd rather have the money back out of it. I'm driving a 91 YJ that I've built. I just need to get gears, lockers and axles for it and it will be 99% finished. This encourages me that I don't have "Just empty every pocket" to have a decent rig.
