Dear Nikola, first, congratulation for the excellent interpretation and for the wonderful song, today I have heard it dozen of times. Really catchy song!!! Also tried to translate from Croatian to Italian, but I am not sure if the translation was good, anyway it was very nice!!! I was looking for information on the ribbon microphone and found your you-tube channel. In few minutes of your video I got much more information than I got looking a lot of other videos on the argument. I was experiencing some test with my home made ribbon microphone and tested the method you suggest to reduce the thickness of the aluminum foil. Starting from a 10 micron kitchen aluminum foil it was relatively simply to reduce it to 3 micron with a sodium hydroxide solution. The only problem is to control the process, but I believe that with a minimum of experience I will reach the optimal time to get less than 3 micron. Also your suggestion on the transformer made me happy. I wound 5 turns of bifilar wire od 0.5 mm around the core of a small 600ohm transformer bought on amazon and it worked fine. The last great suggestion I applied, is the small and simple differential amplifier you proposed. I made it with an old matched transistor IC (MAT01 from the Analog Devices) and also it is working fine. In other word Nikola, in 3 minutes of your video I got a lot of good suggestion and I was delighted by a great song. Thank you Antonio (Rome)

@@iahorana hi, I didn’t watch any video for reducing the aluminium foil thickness. Just use mask and protection glasses and try to put the foil in a solution of water ( 300 /400 cc) and sodium hydroxide ( one spoon). If you leave it for a minute you will see the foil disappear… just make some tests to find the right time and be careful for the toxic gas and the solution temperature..

This is a really neat build, and the tone of the microphones is as lovely as the song you are singing. May I ask? 1. Did you glue or mechanically fix the 5x5 mm steel frame together? Epoxy? JB Weld? 2. Why did you carve the curved indentations into the sides of the frame? Does that shape the magnetic flux into an advantageous pattern for the ribbon? 3. Was it difficult to tension and fix the ribbon with this motor design? 4. You appear to have made some more ribbon mics. Would you kindly show how you made these and how the designs and builds were different? Thanks! Really cool video, as well as the one you just uploaded with the new ribbon mic.

1. Magnets are so strong and have attend to be in right position so you only need some glue polyurethane or epoxy. 2. Distance between front and back of ribbon around the frame is very important, smaller is better (high frequency) 3. Yes. You need antimagnetic tools. 4. Yes. Soon.

Circuit lift up signal and protect mic from phantom power (it can destroy motor). You don't need circuit if sound pressure is high. Ratio for transformer is from 1:40 to 1:100. I use former winding from modem transformer (200ohm). In meanwhile I made new one with better design. I will put some video soon. Transformer from old modem is better because it has MU metal core (soft and shiny). Thanks for coment.

I'm glad you're helping me. I'll build the circuit for phanton power. From what I understand from your explanation, the primary of the modem transformer already has 200 ohms, and it is covered by the secondary one that you removed. Note that the outer layers are of the secondary of the trafo that needs to be removed. Is that it?! ... When I give it to you, please answer me. Once again I am grateful. Obs: I noticed you sing. Do you have any copyrighted work so we can broadcast on the radio where I work?

Hi Ola. I'm glad you like the video and I'm glad I helped you. I have a lot of aluminum foil 5 microns thick and I thinned it by dipping it in alkali. That's dangerous! You have to work outside. I first let the alkali corrode the foil to the end and measured the time and then halved the time +/-. I measured the foil by folding it several times until I got 512 layers, squeezed it, measured it and divided it with 512.

I have carefully removed the secondary winding. The primary has 200 ohms. That's good. Then I wind 6 turns 3x0.4 without being dissamble transformer core. This is now the primary coil that goes to the ribbon and the former primary is now secondary. The electronic scheme is in the video. Pause and Sketch. Now it can use "fantom power" to operate. That's it. I'm glad to be able to help you as much as I can. I'm in a hurry now, so I'll write the next time how I reduced the aluminum foil to 2 microns. Sorry for my bad english. (google translate)

@@nikolasantro9779 96mA would be a bit hard on the phantom supply - the (new) standard is 10mA max, the old standard was 2mA max. However, phantom supplies have a standard 6.8k resistor in series on each line, so even if both lines were shorted to ground the total current would be 14mA. With your emitter resistors added I'd say the circuit would use about 12mA max _if both transistors were saturating at the same time_, which of course never happens. So I'd say you're safely under the 10mA limit. Also, BF459 seems a bit of an overkill here (300V), I'd say BC456 (80V) would work fine. Since this is a differential amplifier, maybe matching transistors would be a good idea (?) And thermally coupling them (sticking them together with a bit of thermal paste inbetween). All that being said, the mikes are a miracle ;) Have you done any frequency response testing? The only thing I have to go on is your mature voice and guitar through YT compression, _just maybe_ it sounds a bit flat at high freq (above 5kHz?). But maybe it's just my mature ears ;)
