Here's how I set up my live production flypack with integrated video switcher, audio mixer and recorder.
Thanks to Here to Record for your flypack videos. They really helped inspire this one.

Hey everyone. I appreciate the kind words and that some of you have learned from my experiences! I dove deep over the past five years or so on multi-cam and live streaming stuff. However, I’m not really doing a lot of this stuff right now, so there probably won’t be a lot of opportunities for me to make these set-up explanation videos. That said - I do continue to check these comments and respond to every one that I can. You can also email me at info@yayyoudidit.com and I’ll help if I can!

Thank you for this breakdown of your flypack , construction, I had to use snip-it to get the wiring diagram in order to make sure I order the parts correctly. For other looking to replicate this Fly pack the Patch cables are 10 SDI, 4 HDMI, 8 XLR

I am putting together my unit now and I appreciate your video and all the great information.. my only difference is that I am anticipating only using 2 audio inputs which I am attaching to a DBX dual channel compressor/limiter.. if I need additional audio I will bring my shure mixer.. thanks again for you time and all the great information!!

To prevent the soldered XLRs coming loose, you can get IO panels with bars running behind, which you can zip tie the cables to.

It was, thank you! Like most things, if I had to do it again, I think I'd do it differently. I don't think for example I need a case quite this deep. Also, I wouldn't include the audio mixer. I haven't used it yet. I think I will eventually do a different build-out.

Great setup! I really like your layout. I put together a similar flypack but in 4ru case. An ATEM 1 m/e 4k and an Atomos Shogun Studio. Squeezed a small network switch and HDMI Splitter in there as well. Power is through a small (external) APC UPS for conditioning and battery backup. Audio mixing is handled in a separate 4ru case housing an Behringer X32 Rack. I was trying to keep the setup as lean as possible, but your setup is making me reconsider a 6ru case. If for nothing else, so that I can put in a DEQ2496 I have lying around that can handle audio delay. Perhaps a video hub and one of those great looking rear patch panels. I hardly ever use my Audio flypack as most venues I operate in already have an audio console of some kind so i just tap in and tell them what I need to hear. I would love to get all the power connections internalized and reduced to a single power cord out. Just didn't have enough room in a 4ru case. Again, codos on your setup.

Looks great, very compact. However, is there no networking included? All of the BMD equipment requires an Ethernet connection and a network switch/ router.
@YayYouDidIt
@YayYouDidIt 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Andrew - The Blackmagic equipment does not require an Ethernet connection to do their primary functions. Monitors still monitor, switcher still switches and recorder still records. I might add some networking in the future, but it’s not necessary if I’m just live switching and recording.
@pealock
@pealock 5 жыл бұрын
@@YayYouDidIt That's true I suppose! Switching on that panel is very annoying for long periods of time. There are very cheap control surfaces that you can use but it will require networking of some capacity. If it doesn't bother you and it gets the job done, by all means carry on!

For what you just did I know you needed a 2nd 810 did you your father have to have a 810 mini Pro. I’m assuming he had to have a 810 Mini Pro for the multi view? Did you have to have a second streaming bridge for this to work this to work?

I was really trying to not to compare with Gary Cruz's build. I however read your response below, and realized that yes, networking is only required for streaming, and all you wanted to do is record and switch. Any issues with Heating? or because of the open rear, there are none?

I made that flypack for the railroad company I used to work for. So it was their equipment. They still have it, but I don't have access to it. I did make a mini flypack for my ATEM Mini Pro, and I shot some video of it, but it didn't turn out quite like I had hoped. I'm thinking of doing a video of it anyway and just talking about the imperfections and what I would do differently. It might still be helpful for some folks.

Thanks for sharing! I think I'm going to recreate something very similar to this. I do have a question, though - Does the USB connection on the ATEM TV Studio allow it to input to a PC to utilize a streaming software like OBS or similar (kind of like the ATEM Mini)? Or would I need to look at getting another device like the BMD Web Presenter to handle that?
@DjangoGS
@DjangoGS 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan - The answer is no. You need a capture device for that and the ATEM TV Studio does not do that. You could send program out of the ATEM TV Studio into the Web Presenter, and then out of there USB into your computer and pull that up with live streaming or video conferencing apps. I use the Web Presenter all the time for that and to do live TV interviews with executives over Zoom, Skype and Google Hangouts and it works great. My only beef with it is that it only outputs 720p. The ATEM Mini line however can capture 1080p into those types of applications.
@CGPdude100
@CGPdude100 4 жыл бұрын
Django G-S thanks for the quick response! That’s about what I expected. I wonder if I should use my ATEM mini as a capture device for the TV studio. I also want to avoid the web presenter for its 720 max resolution. Maybe I’ll look into an AJA capture card.

What I miss with almost everyone who demonstrates his build up, is actual usage. With these tiny monitors and no router for remote control I cannot think of any practical usage for these compact racks. So my question is. Did you already use this build up and what kind of job was it?
@YayYouDidIt
@YayYouDidIt 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, great question. I live streamed a couple band performances with this setup, as-is. I did eventually add a wireless router network to it, along with an Elgato Stream Deck. And when I can, I use a larger monitor for multiview. I am doing a show this week and plan to put together a video on that.

people are so married to ATEM. You could build a system using vMIX running on a laptop, capture using a thunderbolt 3 enclosure married to a magewell of BMD capture care. This system would be smaller, have FAR more capabilities and features such as ability to stream to 3 different locations directly, built in audio delay for infinite audio channels, instant replay, ISO recording.......... and so much more. Also ATEM doesn't like cameras with different frame rates and resolutions. vMix doesn't care. It will take anything you throw at it.
@ivansamokhin2750
@ivansamokhin2750 Жыл бұрын
Almost all atems have scalers on all inputs now. Also atem is a hardware switcher, and is inherently more reliable than a software one like vmix, where you as reliable as is your OS (Windows is not the champ to say the least). That said, I use both, as they are both excellent tools for respective tasks - sometime you need mission critical reliability, sometime flexibility. Even better to use both at the same time 😎💪
