Wow, that’s very cool! I’m looking for a pair of custom earbuds like this so I can wear them with a motorcycle helmet. I’ve found a few different ways to do this but these look like they’d seal good and they look like they’d be flush when they’re in ear. I found a company called Ultimate Ears but their products are crazy expensive! Anyways, this was a very cool video!

Done! Is there another recommendation to soldering in normal armatures without PCB/crossover (like ED)? I meant is necessary pre-tinned just the cable or the terminal need to be pre-tinned as well? Do you use flux or something like that?
@DIYearphone8 жыл бұрын
The silver-plated copper litz wire on DIYearphone.com is all ready to go, no preparation is necessary. If you wish to DIY your own hookup wire, pick up a small spool of insulated litz wire. Cut to length and put a blob of solder on the end of your soldering iron and use that to tin the litz. General recommendation for homebrew armature bundle is to use 0-20Ω resistor in series with woofers and 0-10µF capacitor in series with tweeters. Use 2200-3300Ω dampers on woofers and 660-1500Ω on tweeters

Is there a way to make this work with recessed sockets? Also, you said to use the larger tubing for the entire thing. Will it fit through the holes in the shell? Or would I need to use the smaller tubing for the end as well?
@DIYearphone8 жыл бұрын
DIYearphone CIEM shells can be assembled with the sockets in either a recessed or flush configuration. The larger tubing fits the bores. Taper the ends and dip them in alcohol and they will slide right in.

Hard to say without more info. You can get a lot done simply with resistors to lower the output of specific drivers. Use a capacitor in parallel to reduce highs and in series to reduce lows. Be careful of phase offsets from capacitors. Makes use of dampers!! Good luck

The empty space doesn't change anything for balanced armature earphones. If you have vented drivers you do need double the case volume in back volume, otherwise you lose bass.

I am a little confused. From vibrolabs.com- "Tubing is sold as 1 foot (30cm) of large tubing and 2 inch (5cm) of small tubing." In the video it seems that you use hardly any large tubing and tons of small tubing. Is the product description incorrect or am I confused about something?
@DIYearphone8 жыл бұрын
It's a change of method that isn't well documented, that's my fault. I recommend using the least amount of small tubing as possible. Usually only as a bushing, or maybe 1/4" on the GK/HE armature assemblies. If you use the small tubing for the whole run you can get attenuated high frequencies.
@madmaxkal8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quick response. I sincerely hope that description wasn't there all along. In any case, great informative video. I'm pretty excited about building these and I will definitely order some parts from you. Making the shell seems too fun to outsource so Ill have to figure that part out myself. Im pumped!
@DIYearphone8 жыл бұрын
> I sincerely hope that description wasn't there all along. What do you mean? The shell is a lot of fun to make, and you can make them over and over again! Definitely a great way to go. I only recommend my shells if you want something super easy, professional, and more durable. It also saves you a lot of money if you're only making a few, because there are so many tools you can skip.

I wonder if the filter is close to the driver to create more speed because air has more speed there and then after the dumper filter to create a balloon with the pipe. By heating with a lighter for a second and then blow to create a cavity balloon that can act like a cabinet speaker. And then the 2 driver having the balloon a bit more closer to create different harmonised tone. Mmmmm I am thinking. 1 x13mm dd for the bass guitar. 1 bass balance for the drums. 1 balance for the mids one dd 6mm for the mids. 1 x 3mm dd from the highs and one est for the highs. Set fz same as the graf for the mangird iem xeuus model. Mmm
