This video is probably the most comprehensive video for golf club assembly with respect of epoxy and ferrule finishing. We finish a ferrule by hand without hand tools then we finish ferrule with the machines.
Then we talk about EPOXY, how mix it what type there etc. Something to watch for sure.

Have learned so much from your videos!! Now I understand why I have so much epoxy left over. I was squeezing one trigger per club!! Thank you

Jim, love your videos. Only part way through this one and I have to make a suggestion: call that epoxy a two-to-one mix! You got a one-to- one mix and then a two-to-one mix... I've been a clubmaking hobbyist for years and I didn't find you until about 3 years or so ago and you've shown and taught me some great clubmaking tips and methods. Love your channel, and thanks for what you are doing.

I have tried flipping the shop roll over and using the cloth side soaked in acetone to finish the ferrule. It works fairly well.

Hey Jim! The one thing I’ve kinda struggled with is keeping the shaft label on the lower side of the club. Seems like I can’t seem to keep it from moving around before I set the club down for the epoxy to settle.

Jim, do you use the 3m epoxy dispenser or another manufacturer? 3m dispenser is really expensive and others look similar but much less money? dont know if quality is differnet. thanks

Jim…After turning with 42” belt….felt or linen, I finish with wiping with lite steel wool, then instead of wiping with soaked cloth, I simply pour from a plastic bottle, while rotating. Takes more product, finish is shiny…consistent. Saves getting product on hands. Mizuno ladies use gloves…

When ordering club heads or shafts can you ask whoever you are buying from to weigh them before sending them out.

Off topic question...is frequency testing a set of pulled used shafts a worthwhile exam for evaluating uniformity or is it just used in trimming new shafts? Thanks and love your channel

Bob….it depends where you’re headed to reuse the pulled shafts. Whether tapered or .370” parallel, …I measure….cut length, locate FLO, and using a 7i head of known weight, loft and lie, dry fit to see what butt cpm I get….compared to what I believe I need in butt stiffness. Customizing has graduated over the past 25+ years from all .370” parallels to an equal # or more of .355” tapers. Jim knows….Still a work in progress.

Hi Jim. What do you do when the shaft fit is loose? mavrik pro/modus 120. both are .370 but the fit is so loose that the head just falls right off. I used a lot of epoxy but the head started to come loose after 1 round. I have seen you use the dental floss to hold the head snug when working on the club but never for final assembly. I tried some drywall fabric tape but it makes the shaft diameter too thick. Thanks.

I would have 355 to 3700 shim too. if that is not working, the fishing line trick will do it .I place it in the back side of the hosel and trim prior to drying

Jim would 100 grit emery cloth be too aggressive ?
@McGolf
@McGolf 2 жыл бұрын
it would be on the ragged edge of to aggressive but if you use a light touch you can get awat with using it. Just keep an eye on the tape for the indication of stopping

Jim - Im new to your channel but love it and learn a ton from you! Two questions: 1. What brand machine is your 1x42 sander/buffer and what buffer wheel? 2. Is the 3M 810 expo the same as 420 but just a quick/tour set?
@McGolf
@McGolf 2 жыл бұрын
I purchased them from Golfworks years ago. finding a double arbor motor at those specs is turning out to be pretty hard. The buffing wheel is un-stitched buff wheel available at golf works. You will have to buy 3 to get to that width. 2) technically no, practically yes. The 810 is quick set yet it seems a bit like an acrylic where the 420 is an epoxy. Both are very good.

I was wondering when someone would ask. They for swing weighting the club. I forgot to put it in the tip until the last club. So I pull off the head put some epoxy on the tip weight, replaced the head and moved the ferrule to the correct spot. :)
