I. OVERVIEW 1. Perform the activity everyday 2. Habit forming takes times (18 to 254 days) 3. Willpower is limited (only take important decisions and work on them, more decisions you make less willpower you will have) 4. Build habits to become automatic in actions and lose no or less willpower when doing them II. PLANNING 1. Associate habit with something 'natural' that will happen (e.g. Walk after dinner, Brush after wake up) III. MONITORING / LOGGING 1. Log the streak daily and don't break it al least in the initial stage 2. Use pomodoro technique (25 mins focused work 5 mins break) and log the number of sessions you do 3. Do small and manageable changes to your habits 4. "Accurate monitoring helps determine whether a habit is worth the time, money or energy it consumes." - Gretchen Rubin IV. CONVENIENCE 1. e.g. If you want to learn guitar place it some where so that you can see it, take it and play it without much effort required V. SMART REWARDING 1. Create a positive feedback loop and nobody can stop you from making that habit.

Crazy finding this video post graduation. When I got my sh*t together this is literally what I did. Found an environment (campus library) started slowly increasing my studying intervals to the point where the library became my second home, literally. I became known to my friends at “the studious one” at the end of my career. For those that made it this far, some context; I was working full time and was a full time student. My days were 14hr days. Studying motivational vids like this became my study buddy. It’s now habitual. I created a routine. A routine just in time that saved me. I graduated in the spring of 2020. Time when a full blown pandemic was happening in the world. Sharing because I hope it inspires. Keep on the grind. You meet the right kind of people you need along the path.

Plan your studying. Don't just say: "I wanna study today" or "I'm definitely gonan study!" Instead, Say "let's see, today I'll study from 12 pm to 3 pm, afterwards I'll take a 2 hours break for lunch and some rest. At 5pm I'll study to 7pm and then I'm don for the day." Ideally you want to write it down, so it becomes a physical proof of your determination.

Great video! I'm doing some retraining on how to study. The two gems I found in this were: 1) to find a study group based on my goals to be more social (how convenient) 2) is that the reward should reinforce the habit (I've been doing it all wrong)

I'm glad I found this video. THE FIRST PART CHANGE MY LIFE 💜 when woke up, I usually stare at my phone, spending a lots of hour ending being late at school. But after seing this I started to follow the first step, and I don't even look at my phone when I wake up, I went automatically to bathroom and brush my teeth. It's now become my habit. This seems easy but getting off your bed on the morning is the the most difficult thing you could do in the morning.

I’m currently taking some university courses to upgrade my trade/craft certification, and one thing that I must absolutely do is, when I do homework/study is I have to act like I’m going to work; I need to get into the mode (can’t be in sweats), I need to be dressed, and showered like I’m literally going to work. And also, I set up my computer table like it’s an office (with printer, architect lamp, files, etc.).

If you need to get stuff done but have 0 willpower left, something I also do is do something I know I would finish quickest. Not only will I feel more likely to do it, since it seems easier, it will also give me a sense of achievement because I managed to finish something. This replenishes my willpower. Repeat this with the other smaller tasks and viola, you've done 80% of the work already.

My personal experience: I had a hard time building a new study habit myself. So I asked my friends to track habits together through a mobile app (FYI if someone needs, the app called PingPal, only iOS version.) By giving thumbs up to each other's progress, we all get motivated to go beyond. Highly recommend this way! Either group support or peer pressure definitely can be willpower lol

Great content. For anyone who is interested in the research of ego depletion, recent study also shows that ego depletion depends on what your position to willpower is. Short story: If you have the belief that willpower is a limited resource, it will become one. If you belief, that it is not a limited resource, you will perform much better after the same exercise. Study is from Veronika Job, Carol S. Dweck, and Gregory M.Walton from Stanford University named: Ego Depletion-Is It All in Your Head? Implicit Theories About Willpower Affect Self-Regulation

I found this really helpful. I personally don't have the willpower to study, but I am going to try out these techniques. Thanks.
