How to Build Inclusive Audiences for Scottish Archaeology | ARP 2023

This talk offers insights from two different organisations each working with different approaches to improve inclusivity in Scottish archaeology.
George Tah and Bene Kariba from Jambo! Radio will share their learnings from the challenges and opportunities they’ve encountered when helping to connect Jambo! audiences to formal Scottish heritage.
Kieran Manchip from Archaeology Scotland will also reflect on what his organisation has learned from their New Audiences programme. The speakers will also suggest how archaeological groups can best include and attract marginalised groups in their work.
Kieran has been a project officer at Archaeology Scotland since 2019 and is responsible for running their New Audience project. New Audience’s has been ongoing since 2020 and has been working to increase access to archaeology for refugees and asylum seekers alongside other marginalised communities. The project has worked with groups in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen and is HES funded until 2025.
Creator and Founder of Jambo! Radio Scotland, George Tah is a broadcast media professional, community advocate and passionate music lover, who has transformed a love of African and Caribbean heritage into a social force for good.
Bene Briggs-McKinlay (BB) is a Nigerian-Scottish Lawyer and Editor. She is the host of BB's African News Magazine Show on Jambo! Radio Scotland which focuses on positive developments and achievements from the Scottish-African diaspora and the African diaspora at large. This is done through both a contemporary AND a historical lens. She is also passionate about exploring and reporting on important archaeological and heritage links that will benefit her audience and community.
