Yipee Iy Aye Cowbow Lol 'trade' tips! Too many wrongs to go into here, just too many. Give a man a hammer and he'll built whatever he likes, any way he likes. Give him a video camera and he'll become an expert overnight with the ability to show all the believers in the world (who don't know any better) just 'how it's done' It's not that everything here is done wrong, but a so called 'tradesman' should be just that in everything he does. No shortcuts, no lack of knowledge with the materials and how they should be used, and no going telling everyone 'this is how it's done'.

never trust anyone who use's Silverline budget tools or products, if you have to buy budget, at least go for something like Parkside at least they will do the job, covering the cavity vents that just voided any building damp warranty. no where near enough noggins for that area, never use the kreg system unless you use the interlockers as you will only partly secure the board, you will 100% get cupping of boards. at 5.04 on the video you can see he is well short by 2 inches on the board he is butting up to, what's he gonna do make a 2x1" fillet. this should be a video HOW not to Lay decking by Silverline tools the tool you need USE ONCE and throw away.

Don't level the deck you need a run off for water so it needs to be on a slight slope of around 5mm drop per 305mm run or in old money that would be 1/4 inch drop per foot. So a 4 foot deck would have a 1 inch drop on it.

@builder1a Every decking timber manufacturer will tell you: the proper way to install a board is ridge side down. The ridges, they say, were designed to let air circulate underneath the boards. This, according to them, prevents the buildup of moisture and, consequently, of mould. The ridges are not there to keep you from slipping and sliding around your deck. Nor are they intended to make your deck look nice. They are there as a structural feature to improve its longevity. Besides, they point out, with the ridges facing up, the boards tend to collect moisture between the grooves; a situation that can spiral dangerously downward when mould start to multiply or when the timber starts to rot.

Just buy thunderbolts from your local merchant at least 100mm long for 4x2 and use a 10mm masonry bit then they wind straight in no plug needed.
