Some asshole decided to sell me an XLR cable with 2 unsoldered cables on the male side. Gonna try this out for myself and if it still wouldn't work, guess I'd have to buy another one! Thanks for the awesome and clear tutorial.

I like Switchcraft XLR connectors. The male XLR connector on the wire of my Sony ECM-51 microphone has a Switchcraft male XLR connector.

Thanks, looking forward to soldering my first cable. :)

I'm horrible at soldering, but shouldn't you heat the wire longer so that the uncoated wire sucks up the solder instead of putting hot solder on cold wire? You were doing that when you were tinning.

I think you are right. It does separates audio amateurs from audio professionals. Professionals don't build their own cables. They buy them and throw away the cables when they are broken. I don't have time to repair or build cables. I just make sure I have enough of them at all times. And yes that means buying a few new ones during the year.

You think amateurs make their own cables and professionals just buy them? That's backwards.

@@dleblanc it seems counter intuitive but it's true. professionals have more budget than time.

Love The Video 👏👏👏 Challenge Question (for any body) I'm trying to connect a female xlr with a female speakon & now I'm familiar with red/blue/wires but where do they go on the female speakon? The female speakon adapter has 2-positives (1&2) & 2-negatives (1&2). Please advice

Hi. nice video! I have a question, i bought xlr mic and usb interfece {both used}. but every few seconds the recording dosent get my mic signal , the mic stops recordig flyor a few seconds , and then is recorfing again. does anybody know what is that problem likely to be? the xlr cable? the mic?

Try plugging the microphone into a different audio interface - if that doesn't work, change the cable. If that doesn't work either it's the microphone

Right. The “l” is silent.

It’s pronounced correctly both ways. The British sound originally left out the L, but added it later. The original settlers from UK in America pronounced it the way Americans do now. 😉

Great video, but it's Solder, like Soldier, not sarder.

So, you did not actually make the cable you simply replace the connectors on an existing cable. What a shame that you're not very detailed, you have a misleading video title. Yeah, I know you mean to be helpful but it is still a misleading video title.
