thank you sir, from the u.s. my red and blue wires had broken some and portions were touching eachother so a mighty interference random times. I have no clue about soldering but after about 20 minutes, i had it all back together and works a treat. Very good explanation and video. No wasted words or dead air really

Thanks mate. Just what I needed. Needed a shorty from my QSC K-8 to the sub. So I cut a longer cord into two. Used the other side for the mic to the K-8 (input 2). I was concerned that there was an 'extra' ground that seems unnecessary. Half of the copper braided wires were soldered to that and the other half the ground. Don't seem to need the 'extra' ground. There is no additional noise..

Hi I have solved my problem but I have another cable but only 2 wires 1 is the ground 2 negative. No live cable any suggestions?
@DanBakerMusic
@DanBakerMusic 2 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a speaker cable. Where XLRs are fitted to speakers, pin 1 is ground, and pin 2 is signal.

My ebike battery for some reason has an XLR as a charging cable. I kinda want to charge the battery with solar. I found a boost converter that would do it but I don't want to cut the charger Cable. Would any XLR cable be able to handle 48v 2A?
@DanBakerMusic
@DanBakerMusic Жыл бұрын
The connector itself is used in speaker applications, so it’ll handle the power. You’ll need to use mains cable though as standard mic cable would quickly overheat. It would be likely that pins 1 and 2 only would be used, pin 1 ground and pin 2 48v

Would you pls define in which shield RED in which BLUE in which COPPER as there are 3 shields are Left n Right one downwards thank you
@DanBakerMusic
@DanBakerMusic 3 жыл бұрын
The blue and red are interchangeable between pins 2 and 3 but as long as they’re the same both ends. The copper is always pin 1. I have a few small leads where the pins 2 and 3 are reversed one end for phase invert. This is useful live if you have a snare mic on the top and bottom. Phase reversing one of the mics then allows the mics to add together.

thank you for sharing this with us. I have a sound king EA009b microphone that has 7 pin connectors. I only have a microphone so how to find 7 pins to 3 pins, also have Mbox pro 2 so do I need to buy phantom power separately or my soundcard will handle that .
@tdlg8386
@tdlg8386 3 жыл бұрын
yes most likely. I run a 7 pin st-69 and you need to run to phantom power and then a 3 pin into an interface. may possibly need a preamp as well.

is it normal to bridge 2 and 3 pins? does it cause a problem?
@DanBakerMusic
@DanBakerMusic Ай бұрын
Pins 2 and 3 should never be bridged. Either 2 or 3 can be connected to pin 1 for a cable that has a mono Jack on the other end. An XLR to XLR should always have all three pins separate, so no bridging across any pins.

Thats a lot of wiggle room for something to go wrong with your connections. I never go past 0.5in on my wire stripping. I want as little movement as possible inside of the strain relief area, but not enough to where it strains the cable.

I have a mini xlr cable with only 2 cables. Both seem to be raw wire but one is red in color the other gold. The numbering system is 1, 2, 3 not 1 3 2 on my new end. See tinyurl.com/yazw8m6j. I don't understand why theres no insulation on the red wire for mine... Any help would be great as I can't seem to get it to work
@DanBakerMusic
@DanBakerMusic 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark-it depends what you're plugging in-the wires you refer to are the ones they use for headphone cable-basically there are two ways of soldering- 1) heat up the end of each wire for a while and solder should take, or 2) get a razor blade and scrape off the red/gold at the end and this will reveal cable that can be soldered. In terms of pins, pin 1 is always ground, and pins 2 and 3 are signal wires. If, as in your cable, there are only two wires, then you'll need to connect one of them to pin 2 and the other one to pin 1 but also (using a small piece of insulated wire) to pin 3. This really does depend on what you're using it for however...

There is no 4th pin in the XLR, except for the tab that connects to the chassis. It has no benefit however.
