I've been writing comedy for decades, though I just decided to make my Standup debut in February last year at the age of 55. I now have 10 shows under my belt and stage presence is the one thing I'm really working on. Great advice again here. Thanks mate.

That's brilliant Les, It's certainly a whole different type of rush. You'll have no problem figuring it out seen as you're experienced with the writing. That's what most people find the hardest to keep consistent I think.

There's something I've always thought, and I've tried and it seems to work. If you watch someone doing stand up on mute, and it looks funny, and is visually captivating, then turn up the volume and watch it, and usually it's worth watching. Think Kevin James and Sabastjan Maniscalco

Absolutely, that would be down to performance. Learning how to deliver a joke with the help of your body language. It's like a game of poker where you learn to act in a way that you opponent can't detect, this is kind of the opposite where you train your audience to respond to you when you do a certain move and that's where you deliver punch lines, the most obvious use of this I've seen in recent years is Chris Rock, he moves quickly from stage left to stage right and just before he delivers a punchline he stops completely, delivers the punch, and keeps moving.

I apparently do dry. Dead pan sometimes smile. I'm adding more pauses and sighs. Emotion in a dead pan way. I want to interact with the audience on a topic which would lead into a joke on the same topic. Am I on the right track.

Absolutely you are. Dead pan comedy can work which ever way you want it too. Just because it's low in nature doesn't mean you can't use the same principals. Dead pan is lots of fun to play with and yes, you can go any route you want.

It's very tough at the moment as most places have no gigs due to lockdown. This will pass and soon you'll get to perform. Unfortunately patience is needed at the moment. I've got an entire section on performance on this channel and perhaps you'll get a few ideas from those videos. There should be plenty of Facebook comedy groups you can join that are in or close to your area. In the meantime you can practice and record yourself, get used to seeing your self on camera and hearing how your jokes sound. It doesn't sond like much but simply getting used to that will get you off to a good start.
