Hi, I'm so impressed by your video that I'm going to have a go. I have just started to build my first machine (F550, Naza V2 and Speky DX8) although I think the legs are a bit expensive for what they are, I know they're made of carbon fibre but I'm just going to make my own from Aluminum tube. Thanks for making this video. I hope you get your tongue sorted. Cheers

Thanks for the nice video. But is it correct when the motors don't move 90 degrees? The motors blocked at 80 degrees at the aluminium. So do the motor stopp when it blocked or is always power on the motor? Have you a new link for the carbon landing gear? Thanks for your answer.

So I followed your instructions on how to build retractable landing gear. In my threading process one the retract inside gears got bent. I found a replacement part online got it and it matches. So do you know where the best place is to thread the rectangular "block" thing that threads up and down to move the leg? I really don't want to bent any more small hardware so if you have ever taken one of these apart and put it back together any advice would be so helpful. I can email you a picture if you would like THANKS!

@egiman198210 жыл бұрын
That is not gonna work...retract motor works either UP or DOWN no endpoints...
@tehcereb10 жыл бұрын
Andrew George Yes, Jakub Egermaier is right, you can't adjust the retractable range by using the transmitter end points. There are 2 possibilities with this video: - ThatHPIGuy neglected the fact that when up, the retractable were blocked before they would have reached the entire travel (and this is bad because the retractable motor is still powered by the command circuit and it is mechanically blocked) and this leads to smoke / burn / current over-draining from the 5V source. - He modified internally the retractable. Inside they have 2 OFF switches and there is one rectangular nut which must be modified to action one of the OFF switches sooner than default.

personally I have and are currently building a Lumenier QAV250 Carbon Fibre Edition and so far so good. There is not much difference with the two but you might want to research about them both and see which one you prefer.
Is there a way to limit the travel of the gear? I am building a Y6 and would like the gear to travel around 80% of the total, I am afraid of the gear ending up in the props, and did not want to extend the booms for portability and easy of storage. If I have to I will...Any thoughts?

Great videos :) how did you get the retracts to stop before moving the entire 90 degrees?
@hairyape1ben11 жыл бұрын
Just built a set of these, excellent howto here. To get less travel you have to strip down the retract mechanisms, inside you will see that the retract travel is limited by two micro switches. You just have to extend the surface that pushes the switch at your desired angle. Best of luck

I am currently using your suggestions in building my set of retracts for my Tarot 650 and do not have the extensions on that you drill in order to mount them to the retracts. I do have a question though. The landing skids on the 650 are set at an angle vs being straight when lowered. I have managed to fit the retracts into the original skid bracket that connects to the bottom frame. So I'll have to install the legs offset and not centered, but I am concerned that I'm not able to limit the travel of the retract and it will damage the skid when it is retracted. Is there a way to limit the travel of the retract or will it stop automatically when it senses pressure? Thanks,
@learningwithlyricsandsongs10 жыл бұрын
Try adjusting your end points on your transmitter. If the legs need to be at different angles you will have to use a channel for each leg.

Any links, threads, or vids on how to wire 2 servoless retracts on my quad? I am running a Naza on a Phantom, and have a set of very small 18gram retracts that I can easily mod to fit on... I also have a FrSky 8-16 channel Rx- but I am unsure how to wire and switch the retracts once mounted- I was thinking channel 8 on the Rx- but I am lost on wiring.
@TheMfbs1710 жыл бұрын
Hi hiway , did you find out how to do the wiring? Mo
@hiwayM910 жыл бұрын
Mo Zargari Yes I did- made them, used them, and then put them on a shelf. I pretty much glance at the Phantom once in a while now as I build other multirotors.
@TheMfbs1710 жыл бұрын
***** ,so if you dont mind me asking how did you do the wiring since I use naza v2 and the frsky rx (sbus)same as yours ,I think. thanks Mo
@hiwayM910 жыл бұрын
I put the retracts on the channel 8 of the rx- gimbal was on the gear, or x2 of the naza- I used an arris cm3000 gimbal. Radio has to be at least 8 channels. Asign the chosen aux switch for that channel and viola- landing gear goes up and down.
@TheMfbs1710 жыл бұрын
***** My radio is futaba and means I have got to go to traditional setting in naza instead of dbus so I would be able to use all the ch. Am I right?

Good job, but next time use the M4 tap tool to put a thread into the retracts too. You won't get that slack, The nut will seat easier, and only need to act as a lock. Protip for using a tap and die is to always place the item in a vice, and it's 1.5 turns on .25 turns off to get the cleanest thread cut. I'd also put a rag over the retracts when threading to keep the cuttings out of the worm gears. Also, ask Santa for a Dremel pillar drill ;)
@learningwithlyricsandsongs10 жыл бұрын
I like the idea of retrtacts. You had a good idea. You've started me thinking. Thank you. Just as docthebiker says. Don't keep winding. Every turn back it off a quauter of a turn and then go again. Take your time. You'll get nice clean threads that way. Be even more carefull on aluminium or you could rip it up and have no thread at all. You are putting such a lot of preasure on that retract. So easy to break. put it in a vice and keep it still. that way you can get your die on straigh too. If it goes on wonky, after a few turns the die will be trying to straighten itself and it can deform the threads that its pulling against. Oh, and if you get a file and chamfer the end of the rod a little. Just put rub the corner off the top off the rod. You will find that the die will go on real easy this way. You can add more cutting oil too. Keep it wet and you will get a better cut thread and your die will last much longer. I'm not knocking, honestly. I love to see peopler like you having fun, being creative and creative. I read that one man had problems. I hope that these little tips might help someone. Best of luck to you!

I actually prefer the TL65B44 retracts. They come as a kit with the carbon fiber tubes and everything you need. Or you can get the TL65B43 which is just the retract motor alone which has a trunnion that you can just slip a 16mm OD (14mm ID) carbon fiber or aluminum tube on to to make your own legs if you want them longer. No need to tap a thread on the shaft and do all those other bits.
