Building great defense is like anything else challenging. It takes time, patience and dedication to practice over and over. Don't rush this training.

How did she get so lucky to receive a one-on-one instruction from THE Gabriel Varga? 😮 I have a fight coming up next week and I wish I had learned defense like that from my original coach when I started.

For real, I remember sparring when I was 10 years old against a taller heavier opponent. Received the inaugral round house knock out. No fun at all! I'm glad I've avoided those since 😅

There’s a big step from bad to pretty good but a giant leap from pretty good to exceptional. Congrats to both of you. Have a great fight, Piper!

Thanks. Started kickboxing about a month ago. We've learned a lot of striking and footwork and I've picked up quite well on them. But I'm finding that for the significantly bigger opponents, I'm having to extend myself more and I'm taking lots of hits. I'm not being hit hard, but I have a bit of a headache today thanks to yesterday and figured that my defense needs a bit of work so I went searching. This has given me something to work towards, so thank you very much

Massive Congrats to you and Piper for doing all that hard work on making Piper's defense rock solid, and I have a suggestion for a video idea, can you do a full guide on sweeps and throws with Piper?

When do you recommend countering with the same side hand that you blocked with versus the opposite hand? At the end of the video she was blocking your right hand hook and she was countering with her own right hand hook instead of blocking with her left hand and throwing a counter with that same hand basically trying to beat your hand back to your head.

I can't help but notice Piper's pigeon toes when she's standing relaxed. I know Kung Fu has a stance that looks like this, but it always seemed both unstable and relatively static to me. Do you think people's neutral body structure makes a serious difference in how they will eventually have to fight? Is it something she will have to be attentive in training around, or does it not make much of a difference?

Everyone moves differently, a good coach will recognise this and use a student's strengths while minimising weakness
