I actually made the Airfix kit in the early 1960's. It only came with plastic wheels and when I tried to use it on my triang train temporary layout it was too light and got dragged along, I was able to cure the problem by removing the coal part and placing metal toy soldiers in the wagon. I made most if not all of the Airfix train kits and they were all too light and needed weight added.

Just make sure and put the white stripe at the end with the door when doing the paint/transfers.

@@northwesternmodels9731 pretty sure the photo on the packet has it wrong still🤣leads some people astray. I have a 7mm scale kit of one in brass that I'm slowly building, it has working leaf spring and the potential for working brake gear. Yet like so many these kitmaster/airfix/dapol offerings were the start of the journey followed by the slightly more advanced parkside kits then off into a world of others in varying materials.

Huh. I actually have an old Airfix one of these, boxed. Got it at a train fair. Only difference is the couplings and the wheels. It's so fascinating to see old kits still on sale with only the minimal necessary changes. Heartwarming, really.

Twisting to remove the parts from the sprue can distort the moulding, better to use a sharp craft knife or snips that are made for the job.

This was an excellent instructional video. Thinking of getting the Dapol Class 55 Deltic kit but wondering what it's like to build. Any ideas? Thanks man.

ive never built it tbh, however im sure if you take your time and follow the instructions you can build up a nice model

Great but what about the couplings anyone tried to use any standard, kadee or nem couplings, I have a rake of 5 cattle wagons (Airfix) and a brake van wanting to use alt couplings but dont know which ?

i think a few people have successfully got other couplings to work, and its a case of getting the heights to match. regarding the type, its entirely down to personal choice. personally ive found kadee's a pain the backside to set up, so have stuck with standard NEM tension locks
