The weeding process is an interesting challenge. The glue bonding the paper to foam is so good that I found it necessary to run my razor blade between the paper and foam to give a smooth clean channel. The laser cuts are precision and beautiful.

The large step in front of the aileron from the extra fold adds strength to the trailing edge but creates turbulence for the aileron and dramatically reduces its effectiveness. I had a flying wing I built with dollar tree foam that had that same step in front of the elevon. The maiden flight was totally uncontrollable. An engineer from the Lockheed skunk works told me what was wrong and how to fix it . I field cut a bevel into the step essentially eliminating it. The Result, it flew perfectly.

Last mod. The clearance in the wing for the esc was to tight. I cut away the wing skin between the spar and wing leading edge. Exposing a beautiful shelf for the servo and wires. Then used scrap foam board to shape a curved cover. Result, easy access to the servos and a beautiful finish

On my build the motor mount assembly was 1-2mm to wide to fit into the cowling. I had to modify/ reduce the mount width and the 3D printed firewall by 2 mm. Now it fits with some friction only.

I've scratch Built over 200 planes with $tree foam. This model can't be built using PDF files copied from the laser cut file. Far to complex and precise. If you want to build this on just get a 3view drawing on line, print it, scale each dimension and draw it on the sheet to cut. It works great and is very satisfying.

Build is going good so far but nosegear is as bit problematic- 3D printed parts for nosegear bracket didn't fit together base was a bit warped waiting to hear back from support laser cut parts fit has been great

I am very concerned there is no spar tying the wing halves together. Positive g loads have shear panels in the fuselage to transfer the load but negative g loads only have the butt glue joint at the wing center section. I'm adding a sub spar piece to tie the long wood braces together

The nose gear mount process is problematic. I redesigned the wire gear and made a free castering wheel and captured the wire with a collet on top. I drilled a hole in the base plate to provide room for the collet.

I like the looks and build of this plane but do not want to deal with twin motors. Too bad there is not a single motor version. Surprised your didn't use a wooden spar when you joined the wings.

@davidjester5085 I purchased the Twin Otter Kit and electronics package. This is my first FT build, but not my first model build. Do you have information on radio setup, suggested throws for high and low rates, differential thrust, etc? I saw the 3 year old FT video on setting up an Aura for Differential Thrust but when I try to do that setup I only have the option for 1 or 2 throttles, the 3rd option allowing differential throttle isn't listed.

I built a foam box mounted to the bottom center section of the wing and mounted the receiver and a backup gyro in it. Then routed the rudder and elevator lead extensions to exit near the trailing edge. Works great and keeps it neat.

The r Servo body's for rudder and elevator conflict with the vertical stabilizer I prefit them to leave marks to cut some paper/foam on the stab to allow clearence

Yikes I 3 hardwood pieces ~12" x 1" x 1/8" left over after completing the plane. Where did I mess up? A 4 hour video is a long rewatch.

At initial glance I agree. But this plane is like 7 sheets of foam that is all laser cut plus all the push rods, servo horns, gear mounts.. there is a lot in these kits. Sure you could probably save a few buck sourcing the cheap motors servos and ESCs yourself but these are high quality motors, ESCs and Servos that perform very well. It costs money to put together these videos, run the warehouse and actually test and develop the product. Compare it to the new HK Tundra v3. About the same price but this one is a twin, and foamboard. Seems fairly priced to me.

Just the plane kit & the power pack is $274.94. Yeah its pricey. Im a member of FTCA and I've never received a coupon code or anything... there are the similar plans from Trevor Cleall in the FT forum, but we know the flite test plans are drawn by an engineer and very well made/easy to print and tile out. Flight Test is a big company now, with C suite, staff, physical location, lots they have done for the community and they need lots of money to pay everyone and keep releasing these vids and kits and everything. Maybe they'll give us the plans for $40 or something a few months from now

I have all the electronics to build one. They used to give the plans away for free for their foam builds. If I could print the plans for free and buy the foam board, it would only cost me about $10

Nothing is free. Ever. Quality costs money. My guess is that your employer doesn't think you are greedy for getting paid appropriately for what you do.
