I'm doing a Book Advent Calendar for my mom this year. She was diagnosed with inoperable Stage 3 Lung Cancer earlier this year and has picked up reading again. Sometimes she'll finish a book in a day, so 24 books seemed logical (a mix of new and used). And then so she has something to open on Christmas, I got her a pair of cozy Ugg socks, bookmarks, a different book light, and a bookish cosmetic bag that she can take to chemo and put snacks in. She has the light you put on the page and loves it but said it's sometimes hard to hold, so I got her another option.

I did a similar package for my friend's mother who was going through chemo. It was such a great idea! My friend's mom was having problems with her esophagus at the time from the chemo so I also got her some cute bookish related tea. Love the idea of the bookish cosmetic bag.

The tea is a great idea! Luckily, we’re past the sore throat and loss of taste from radiation. I did the Ugg fuzzy socks this year because she’s always cold (we live in the northern Midwest area) and my sister and I got her an Ugg blanket last year before her diagnosis. Maybe a book themed coffee would work though. Thanks for the idea!

I would also suggest magnets! My husband got me cute ones as stocking stuffers last year that say “No Shelf Control” and “Death by TBR” (both accurate). This year he is personalizing a couple 6 sided dice with reading prompts so whenever I am having trouble deciding what to read next I can roll for it! Both from Etsy!

Brilliant ideas, KZbin knocked it out of the park recommending this video. I'm a reader and have many reader friends and even a mini version of the advent sounds fantastic. I'm also friends with a number of romance writers -- my brain is spinning with ideas for a writer advent calendar! Pens, notebooks, bookmarks, writer resources, gift cards for the big online store which Shall Not Be Named and can deliver the next day, a journal, and part of it could be digital, a curated list of advice videos, funny videos, etc (make a QR code for the playlist!).

I would add bullet journals to that list. I don’t do a book journal exactly. I make notes in my bullet journal of characters, places, key things, etc. It helps my Type A brain; especially when I’m reading a series and I can reference “oh that is so and so’s sister.”

Another bookmark idea if you and your partner have kids or if doing an advent for a family/friend who has kids, have the kids decorate bookmarks. When my son was in elementary school (now an adult, married with his own family) he made me a set of bookmarks. I love this so much. Also things that don't fit into the calendar can be wrapped and placed under the tree. On the day it is to be opened there can be a note in the calendar saying which package to unwrap. Also, I literally squealed out loud when I saw your shirt.
