If you want a really moving narrative about dinosaurs ever (or anyone else who is reading this), I HIGHLY recommend The Last Days of the Dinosaurs by Riley Black. It is emotional, well-informed, and centered on a specific part of the Rockies. I'm also pretty sure this book informed the producers of 65 (2023)--there were so many details that I just Knew they read Black's work. Also, Riley Black is a transgender person in science! She's very cool.

Sink or Swim is my favorite of the series so far. You don’t really need to read them in order, but characters from the other books get mentioned.

I'm so happy you enjoyed The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs! :D I'm a big ol' science nerd so it's one of my favorite books, Steve Brusatte does such a good job of interweaving the science with the intrigue and discovery of dinosaurs in a way that's palatable for most readers. His other book, The Rise and Reign of the Mammals is just as good. You might also like Otherlands by Thomas Halliday, his writing is lovely and poignant and you'll learn so much!

The writer did well to give them each a unique personality. Maybe they aren't as popular as I thought they were but they were my brother's favorite books and his son is currently reading them. I love these themed TBRs though. Just finished Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs for my 24 of 2024. I agree that there's nothing wrong with it, and there's nothing I could suggest to improve it, but it's still 4 stars to me. Maybe because of how many dinosaur names and people names he name drops that I felt I was constantly like "Who? What?" That it took me out of the book here and there, but ultimately thought was a great read. I think making this into a young adult/middle grade book would be fun for the Dinosaur Kids. I have one in my life that hated The Land Before time because they don't use the correct terminology for the dinosaur names. I think he'd absolutely love this if it was adjusted for elementary schoolers.
