Don't apologize to the trolls who complain about putting your hands in "acid." Lemonade is an acid, cola is an acid, and this is basically vinegar. Hysteria over the name of something, does not make it a hazard.

Nicely executed project. I have had good luck cutting rings, discs, and washers with hole saws. I stack the plates, clamp them together and then drill through holes in all four corners. Then I screw the plates to a suitable piece of plywood or 2x lumber. At the drill press or mill I secure the wood to the table and saw away. With the workpiece secured to the table you do not need a pilot hole. When cutting metal hole saws like slow spindle speed and lots of cutting oil. There will be some sharp edges on the rings when they are unstacked so be carefull.

I like the vacuum trick! I wonder if I could use this for running wire through long sections (15ft) of pvc tubing.
@ronpeck32267 жыл бұрын
Yes, put a small piece of foam rubber on the end of the string.
@davidmarr52457 жыл бұрын
I've used this trick to run wire through UG conduit in 300 foot lengths. We call it sucking a mouce though the tube, the mouse is a piece of foam as mentioned above or just a wad of paper, the string is the mouse tail :)

Good question Edward. No I didn't put a wire tap on it. There are so many bends the wire has to go that it doesn't need one.

What is the concentration of acetic acid to water?
@dougdixson7 жыл бұрын
Hi Dale, To help keep disks from spinning on the bolt, turn the bolt around so the nut is clamped in the chuck (instead of the bolt's head). Friction on the clamped parts will want to tighten the bolt, forcing the bolt to clamp tighter. You will notice that the center will stop turning at this time so be mindful to watch it. Easy to re-adjust on the fly. Use some washers to make sure the bolt doesn't destroy the wood buffer. Hope this helps.

Good thing this was fabrication and not production machining because the shop boss would have kicked your butt for leaving the chuck key in the chuck at 12:30. I like Mr. Fenner's rule he passed along from his shipyard days, "If the chuck key is not in your hand, it had better be in it's holder." Good advice for avoiding the ER and prevents looking for the key on the other side of the shop.
