I used 8/4 poplar I had at the shop. You could use 2x4. I bought my bolts and carpet at Home Depot.

I mean the material you wrapped the poplar. I have some black locust I will probably use. I need to make the bunks though as it is tough enough to get my boat back on the trailer

Nice video, sir! Say you had notches that had to be cut out of one side of your boards. How would you go about carpeting those? Thanks.

Depends on the size and depth of the notch

@@MarksUpholstery they're about 4" longways down the 2x4s, the width of the 2x4 (so 3 1/2") by about 1/2 deep. I ended up just cutting pieces that were big enough to wrap the inside of the notches, and then I just wrapped the boards as you did. After that, I used a utility knife to cut out the notches from the main piece of carpet and then stapled the holes that I cut really well around the notches.
