After playing around with tactics in career mode for a bit on legendary, I settled on a 4-1-4-1 pressing system set to 71 height. If you use attack+ inside forward on both RM and LM, and balanced, high pace wingbacks, the structure puts you in a spot to control the game to the tune of 70-80% possession.

@@alexfielding7191 I use box to box for both CMs and poaching for ST. A key thing I do when playing with this structure is to push forward fast after winning the ball back and don't force an attempt on goal if it's not an easy conversion. From there recycle the ball around the field where someone will be wide open because the AI will over-pursue your attack. From there do directed runs to generate openings. Also, I wouldn't try this against people, it's too easy for a player who knows the game to attack its weaknesses if you lose the ball.

I gave up with it after 2 days and went back to 24. I tried creating a custom tactic so that I can bring a CAM on to replace a CM but it put my LCM in the same place as my LW and wouldn't let me change it. It's crap that you can't just make a CM switch to CAM or change your formation if you have a player sent off.

@@1of1yonas_ the scripting feels super heavy as well. I've started using the marker for shots at goal and even though the marker is in the goal it flies outside the post. I even had Haarland about to score against me with an open goal just stand still at the edge of the box until I tackled him. Then I went on to score. Doesn't feel good to win as you know it's not about what you did but about the script.

funny you mentioned Pep's 2010 Tiki-taka because you actually can't, there's no way to get a CDM, CM and CAM into the same midfield, the False 9 doesn't come deep enough, and the inside forwards don't make enough runs in behind. I had that formation absolutely nailed in FC24, I made team of Barca 2010 regens around 18 years old and 60 rating each and started in League 2, was the most fun save I made, shame I can't do the same in FC25.

In fc24 when I wanted my false 9 to come down even deeper i would move my cam as a lam/ram and my striker as a cam. Haven't bought fc 25 yet so I am not sure it works, but you can give it a try

@@DIMI5034 it doesn't work, you can't change positions of your players any more, it's set formations and the 4-3-3 has an LCM and RCM, and the most advanced tactic (Playermaker/Attack) just doesn't move the CMs forward enough. the game is pretty bad, unless you want to play endless through-balls behind for counter attack goals with Co-op cam enabled.

The best combination I've found so far is for my Nottingham Forrest save. 4-2-3-1 with the wing play tactic. Have the left back as an attacking wingback and left midfielder as an inverted forward to avoid an overlap, lcb as a ball playing defender and ldm as a deep lying playmaker to create down the left side. Then have the rcb as a defender, right back as an inverted full back to avoid an overlap on the right side where the right midfielder is a winger. The attacking midfielder is then a playmaker and the striker is a target forward who plays in the gaps between the defence and midfield. The right midfielder is then getting in behind to create and the left midfielder is getting into attacking positions. One negative I've found though is it requires a lot of pace in your two defensive midfielders so Sangare had to go, but I score a lot of goals and rarely concede.

Will work well with pacey centerbacks. Otherwise, pacey wingers and a wide attack can break your defense.

So far I don't think that the tactics or at least the player behaviour is better then FC24. I can't replicate the formations I used before because formations can't be adjusted & even if you adjust player roles they don't cover the areas I want. More annoyingly is that the lines don't connect with each other (especially attackers are left alone even with roaming mids) as well & players won't run into spaces & if so, they suddenly stop. I like that you finally can play a career mode with women teams & that there are more nations to scout, but without that, it would be the 1st time in 25 years that I would rather play last years game.

The problem I have is the game penalising me for going outside the set roles for presets. For example, Tiki Taka must have a False 9 striker, otherwise the preset reverts to Custom Tactic, and your gold/expert coaches are demoted to silver/accomplished. I don't know if this changes over time. The message you get when the game warns you you're stepping outside of the preset parameters and whatever you save will be a Custom Tactic is pretty vague, saying that your players will take "time to gel", whatever that means.

If you mean individual as in the custom tactics (the one with a pencil in it) then just sign the coaches with most stars. U cant get preset bonuses from coaches when using an individual tactic.

On your wingers, it sounds like you've got then set to attack, change them to balanced or roaming and they will track back to defend.

Not sure if you know about double click and hold rb. A single hold of rb sends another presser to the ball Carrier which is only good for the sidelines. Double click and hold rb causes a second defender to highlight blue and mark his nearest attacker. It cuts off pass lanes and shrinks the defense around the ball. Double click and hold rb alternate that with single rb pressing.

But your tactical preset is set to custom, which is no good for career mode because you can't assign coaches for custom tactics. So you'll miss out on faster growth for players' stats. Setting your tactical preset to custom allows you to put any player in any role, but for other presets like wing play, we're forced to use certain roles. So we can't go off your custom tactics because we don't use custom tactics in career mode.

I'm playing 4-2-3-1 I have inside wingers on attack and they're not even getting into the box or making runs! I understand this is because for instance Ben Seghir Is still learning the role though but then Minamino IS running into the box as an inside forward and he's not learnt that role yet either so not sure how that makes sense but it's killing my attacks

The formation you choose is your formation without the ball, and the player roles are you with the ball. If you want to play with 3 defenders with the ball then change one of your fullbacks to an attacking role like attacking wideback or falseback

Problems with this new tactical system too large to list but here's a few : When I change on/off the ball tactics, it just automatically changes the other one too. No matter what i do to my 4-1-2-1-2 wide diamond it keeps changing my on the ball tactic to a 4-4-F'n 2. The tactic reads "4-1-2-1-2 wide", but clearly shows a diagram of 4-4-2 and the players play as such. How do you change formation during a game unless you have multiple tactics sheets? Honestly i don't want to bother making more because they are broken anyways. Not being able to drag players around on the pitch diagram is annoying. I really don't want to spend hours micromanaging this, especially because it is broken anyways and half the time reverts to something i didn't even choose after i spent the time fooling around with it. Am i just doing something wrong or is it actually this messed up? At this point I almost don't even care because the time you have to put into it is ridiculous. When people have jobs and lives snd just want to dabble a bit in career mode in their spare time this makes it awfully difficult to enjoy it or get anywhere with it.

I personally think tactics have been ruined this year. FCIQ is actually amazing and a ++ play behaves noticeably different to a + player or a regular player, but as far as getting players to do what you want it's nearly impossible. Set a winger to inside forward and they play almost centrally and compact your front line. Set them to winger and they never even think to come even a foot inside if there's space, or make runs into the box from wide. If you play 4-3-3 holding, good luck getting either CM to make late runs into the box whatever role you choose. And good luck getting fullbacks to overlap in any role either. It's a great idea that has been executed so poorly
