damage of ap shells is determined by how much left over penetration you have after successful penetration. For some reason this also applies to the filler in APHE, its not calculated separately. So you can do basically no damage with the fusing of the shell after barely penetrating the tanks armour that is assuming the shell fuses at all because sometimes it just doesn't fuse.

That's not how it works in game, but it should be. Unless the entire round enters the tank, the burster charge isn't going to matter, and that would only occur in situations of severe overmatch (like an 88 through a Sherman maybe). APHE shouldn't be noticeably better than AP on anything except bunkers (as was largely the case in the real world - see why the US stopped producing APHE postwar)

Bought the Dauphine today. Got eight kills with it in my second battle, the enemy was only Germany and Italy. Great buy; every time I ran into a Panther they’d have a moment of hesitation and we’d stare at each other like the Spider-Man meme. Playing Germany at 5.3-6.0 feels like cheating but your simultaneously somehow losing. Your armor is insane your gun is even better your relatively fast with decent gun depression and to top it all off your opponents are mostly in Sherman’s and t-34s (decent numbers of IS tanks mixed in plus some open top US TDs) I felt like I was a completely unstoppable monster only to look up and realize everyone is dead we have no caps except the one I am holding and we have 15 tanks in our spawn

You gotta try the KV-122. It's just an IS-2 that's a bit slower but at 5.7 instead of 6.3-6.7

Its MUCH slower, and has very thin armor in the hull. So IS-2 has 6.0 and its a heavy or even fat medium with 122mm. While KV-122 is pretty much a turreted TD at 5.3. Doesnt mean its bad but its not much stronger than IS-2.

In fact they are so far apart that one of the panther variants cant even fight the T44. If gaijin didnt care about community backlash the French and Russian panthers would be like 6.7 at least

​@@imtiredtiredtired Have you played any other tank at 5.3-5.7? I have played USA, Germany, Russia, Japan, Sweeden, France all at 5.3-5.7. There is not a single other tank with its amount of armor, speed, survivability, and gun all combined. Every other tank has a trade off, the T34 is fast but doesnt have good protection when stationary, the M4 76 has a stabilizer but has no armor and a middling gun, the britsh and french M4s have great guns but lack any sort of good post pen and loose the stabilizer, the Chi-Ri has a good gun but is big slow and doesnt have good armor, The STRV M42 DT has a really fast reload rate and is just nimble in general but is bad at everything else. Notice how every other tank at this br range has a strength or two and then noticeable weaknesses. The panther is above average in EVERY FIELD and best in class in a few. The most you could possible argue for is that some of its great features are only mildly above average for the br. Like "Oh but um akchually the panthers hull can be penetrated by 3 guns and it doesnt turn that well" Okay name another tank at 5.0-6.0 that isnt german with 140-180mm of effective hull armor. And its mobility still outclasses most tanks easily, its not like its slow or clumsy its just not better then one of the fastest mediums in the game the T34. It has exactly zero negatives all of its traits are like a B+ at worse. I play the panther as my default selection for basically any event or for wagers. It is literally playing the game on easy mode. I prefer playing the T34 85/57 for the slightly higher speed and maneuverability, and the M4 76s are quite fun with the stabilizer, the Swedish autoloading thing is also pretty fun. But the Panther basically takes the positive traits of all of those tanks, combines them into one, and gives it to you at a low br. Its worse traits are like a B+ In no universe with the current general balance in warthunder is the panther even remotely balanced at 5.7. Minimum 6.0. I run the Panther F the most out of any panther and for a good while I used it as my backup for the german 6.7 lineup. And it still out performed most 6.7 medium tanks easily. The Panther F just flat out performs the T25, Centurion 1, and AMX 4 in literally every way.

But i don't know, maybe i have brain damage, maybe the Panther just doesn't suit me but i'm simply don't do as well in it as the T-34-85. It all comes down to the weakness i stated that made me think that the Panther is not a monster that i think it is.

@@imtiredtiredtired M4A2 76 and jumbo are my most played tanks, T34-85 is my 4th most played tank and the 57 is my 8th. Followed by the panthers in 9th 11th 12th 16th. I generally prefer the M4 or the T34 when I am just playing for fun. But I think its a little ignorant to pretend as if the panther isnt basically brain off easy mode due to just having every positive trait that makes a tank good. Its reverse speed is the only thing that could even be called a weakness but thats more something you have to just play around rather then a actual problem

There is one thing I like you to try out. It's the ISU-152. It has a high penetrating HEAT round which in fact, can pen the UFP of a Tiger II. This tank destroyer can melt any tank at it's BR. It also has a handy 50 cal which can kill any light targets like M18's

The Panther is probably the best German tank in this BR, and maybe even the best of all tanks in its tier. I'm starting to play French and I'm planning to buy this tank, exactly for the reason that is the subject of your video. I will give an example: On the "Sinai Sands" map, I'm sitting in my Sherman FL10 with a charging atomizer. I only have full AP at my disposal without the explosive insert. I shoot the Panther at a distance of 1800 meters and set a personal record - 21 shots fired (!!!), including 3 misses, i.e. 18 hits to eliminate the Pantera. That's why I must have this tank.

Based on recent experiences I don't think the problem is Spookston's Panther having low damage, I swear they just made German crewmen really tough. Just earlier I put a 20 pounder APCBC round through the front of a panther and his machine gunner caught it and stopped all further damage!
