Great video on a topic that often gets overlooked, especially when people get deep into a cut. Nothing is better than not moving at all when you've been dieting for a long time, takes a big toll on your NEAT though.

oatznsquats absolutely, I notice this the most when I am photo shoot lean. When I am in the gym I notice myself sitting down more between sets, when I get home I am more likely to sit instead of stand or even lie down instead of sitting. My NEAT absolutely plummets.

here's some things you can do in your house: deep clean, declutter, organize things, re-arrange furniture, paint, do laundry, mow lawn, shovel snow, rake leaves, garden, cook, etc. i like to do these things with the tv on or music playing. plus having a clean environment seriously boosts your mood. here's some things you can do when you're out: park far away and walk (weather permitting), walk through all the aisles in the store 3 times, carry a basket instead of rolling a shopping cart, take the stairs etc. here's what you can do at school: use the bathroom that's furthest away, stretch, fidget, take the longest way to your classes, etc.

I expected to know everything that was gonna be said. I was pleasantly surprised. People do overlook the NEAT but i think the reason is that spontaneous burst of physical exercises, in the absence of a proper warm up can be very costly to your joints, the staircase is the perfect example. You can seriously hurt your knees taking the stair early in the morning just going to work, specially if you are overweight

I am on day 4 of a diet break (6 months of straight dieting) and noticed that my NEAT (via step tracker) is much higher. I usually aim for 10 k steps with my step tracker but am averaging 13k. I started paying attention to this a day ago and noticed that my energy level is much higher. I am eating my calculated maintenance calories using the Katch-McArdle Formula. I am concerned that my NEAT is going to keep me in a caloric deficit. Should I eat in a surplus?

Hi Ben, is this concept different between men and women? As women tend to store more body mass during different stages of their life, I.e. during menopause.

At last someone that talks about this.. I get more hungry and end up eating more calories when I work out to much.. Which is not really smart. Rather focus on diet and not doing crazy workouts that end up making you binge eat!

Coach, 300kcal in 1:00 ridding a bike, 1 am 1,78cm 64kg. Can I count it like NEAT? I need to ride a bike or walk at least 1:30/2:00 ours days, just for moving my self...

Thanks Ben, very interesting. I'm a postman for my day job so walk approx 10-13 miles per day. I'm currently cutting, should I factor this in to my caloric calculations?
@BenCarpenter
@BenCarpenter 7 жыл бұрын
richardcopestakeify it is hard to accurately account for it, how many calories do you allow for being on your feet? It should certainly be a consideration though so don't be surprised if your caloric maintenance is higher than most calculators would recommend for you based solely on body weight. :)
