I had depression and anxiety from age 13 to 45 when I went on an elimination diet for chronic gut health issues and excluded all sugar for 4 months , and I never had depression again. Because I stopped almost all sugar and processed foods after seeing its connection to my mental health. That was 8 years ago.

5. fiber intake first: veggies, proteins & fats, starches and sugars 6. Clothes on carbs 7. Savory snacks between meals 8. Eat sweets as a dessert at end of a meal and never on an empty stomach. 9. Eat fruit whole, not dried, juiced, or smoothied. idk what 10 was lol
@seanaames6855
@seanaames6855 35 минут бұрын
1: Eat food in the right order: veggies first, protein second and carbs at the end. Eating fibers first slows down the absorption of carbs and therefore decreases the likelihood of a glucose spike. 2: Add a green starter to all your meals: The goal is to include more fiber in your meals which prevents a glucose spike. 3: Stop counting calories: Foods that are high in glucose could be low in calories and food high in calories could be low in carb but more fulfilling and beneficial for our body. For example a donut and cup of yogurt both contain 150 calories but the donut will cause a glucose spike but the yogurt will not because of the protein and fat content. 4: Flatten your breakfast curve: cereal with milk, fruit smoothie, muesli and fruit juice all cause a big glucose spike.A good breakfast that won't cause a glucose spike is usually savory and contains a good amount of fiber, fat, protein and optional starch and fruit. Our body is very sensitive to glucose following breakfast because it has been in a fasting state for a long time. Also, given how well maintained the glucose spike was after breakfast- our body is better able to manage the blood glucose level for the rest of the day. See image for examples. 5: All types of sugar are the same: Basically there is no difference between maple syrup, honey and white or brown sugar. One is not healthier than the other when it comes to causing glucose spikes. The best types of sweeteners that have no side effects on glucose and insulin levels are: Allulose, monk fruit sweetener, stevia (pure stevia extract), erythritol. Artificial sweeteners recommended to avoid are aspartame, maltitol., sucralose, xylitol, acesulfame-k. 6: Pick a dessert over a sweet snack: Taking a sweet snack over an empty stomach causes glucose spikes. If you are craving something sweet, take it after a meal as a dessert. 7: Reach for vinegar before you eat: Taking 1 tablespoon of vinegar in a tall glass of water taken before the meal (with a straw to avoid causing problems with tooth enamel) decreases the glucose spike. The acetic acid in vinegar temporarily deactivates alpha-amylase which is an enzyme that turns food into glucose in our body. Additionally, acetic acid encourages our muscle to take glucose faster than the bloodstream without releasing additional insulin. 8: After you eat, move: Doing a 20 minutes exercise within 70 minutes after a meal is shown to reduce glucose spikes. 9: If you have to snack, go savory: Most popular snacks like potato chips, granola bars etc are carb heavy and cause a glucose spike when taken as a snack. See the attached image for savory snack suggestions. 10: Put some clothes on the carb: When you have to get something on the go, choose meals that combine starches/ sugars with fat, protein and fiber. Basically putting some clothes on the carb and not taking them alone. Example, some apple/ pear with nut butter.

@@SunnyGoesHiking Yes. There are two we bought. I was aware of the topic, but not that it is so bad. One book of her describes more the problematic and solutions you can apply. The second one is more like a cooking book with menues and cooking styles. It lead to me just cooking myself every day, which is the biggest achievement in terms of a healthy diet. When you're not cooking yourself, you don't know what's in there👀 Require work and dedication, but my health was worth that tenfold.

Our bodies have adapted to live in environments where we don't have food, don't have scheduled feeding times, animals eat when they're hungry or require food to maintain bodyweight through periods of hibernation etc. the only statistic we should worry about is quality of food, and trying to stay in a state of caloric surplus so our bodies aren't metabolising themselves for energy (primarily during periods of growth) when you're fully grown I imagine you have a greater resilience to the downsides of caloric/nutritional deficits, as your body has mostly completed it's development stage.

I can confirm the positivity of Jessies’s recommendation to reduce sugar intake during menopause. Since I reduced sugar, cut out alcohol, increased fiber to 25 g/day, sleep to 7-8 hours/per day and 30 minutes of exercise per day ( increase heart rate), my hot flashes, brain fog, anxiety and insomnia are gone. Adding Jessie’s tips on food order has helped, too. Am trying the vinegar next. I want to build muscle now, so I am strong in my eighties. Just shared your episode with my teenage sons. I’m a mother of 2 and expecting our third any day. I am and have been struggling with my sugar since gestational diabetes with my second. Pretty sure I had it before her but didn’t know. My son never ate sugar sweets candy etc. I made all his baby food from scratch and our deserts were always fruit and natural foods. He’s 9 now and is very mellow good natured and usually only has moments if he’s over tired or hungry. He also likes veggies and asks for them when he’s hungry. My daughter is obsessed with sweets cereals all the awful stuff. She does love steak but getting her to eat veggies turns into war. She is the complete opposite of her brother behavior wise and ive been noticing the difference much more lately. So I REALLY appreciate all this information. Even the part pertaining to to children. Doesn’t matter if you guys have any of your own. You don’t have to have your own to understand that children are also susceptible to toxic food habits. My kids are my world and their health matters to me. I’m not too proud to consider information coming from childless people. Thank you for this episode. !!

Sorry but there are many things where she's wrong, completely wrong. She's not a dietetician and often she is giving incomplete information. Best example, the study she talks often about the order of food, she always forget an important part, the timing between each part... About health, i would trust more TIm Spector than her. Several of her claims have been debunked by dieteticians, doctors, and other specialists. Not everything she's saying is wrong, but she's far from the best person to give information about health and nutrition.

Thank you Steven, another great guest. I applied these glucose queen hacks for a year. I didn't loose any weight and my eczema didn't reduce. I applied the vinegar drinking and massively increased cruciferous veggies mostly. Results were minimal. Two months ago, I stopped all the veggies as I learned about oxolates and needed to change regime because inflammation was rife through my joints and skin. Also my immunity was shot, getting viruses on a monthly basis. Eating fatty red meat has literally changed everything. No joint pain! Lifelong eczema has almost disappeared! I sleep through and have a sharper brain now. Almost full carnivore now and feel amazing. Please could you interview an expert on the oxolate subject. Absolutely. Moderation is important. Having said that when looking at the study on the Blue Zones where you have the highest number of centenarians you will find fruit, vegetables and carbs are quite the majority of the consumed food. So many "experts" are talking about so many contradictory theories from one to another. In the end it's a combination of many different factors. Personally I'd rather look at studies made on populations who are actually living healthily past 100 rather than listening to some jumped up random student in diaper who got a master degree and wrote 2 books.

Loved this episode so much DOAC team. As a parent to a toddler we decided to not introduce her to any processed sugars/foods and home cooked foods only (it does get challenging when we're out!) We've had some comments saying that our daughter will go sugar crazy as she gets older bcos we are restricting it from her diet . It was encouraging to hear that there's no evidence of this and hopefully it will mean we are building healthy habits around food for her ❤ I'd love to win one of your raffle prizes, putting that out there in the universe 🙏🏼

I love this woman. Her message is very simple. (1) You still can enjoy sugary stuff such as whole fruits and birthday cakes by eating them for dessert (after a meal) by first coating or stuffing your stomach and intestinal lining with fibers, good fats (extra virgin olive oils, nuts, butter, cheese, saturated fats and so on) and high quality proteins. (2) Moving after every meal (See "blue zone" people). (3) The quantity of consuming carbohydrates is dependent on your level of activities (See nutritional intakes or carbohydrate intakes of Tour De France cyclists. Eating more carbs on mountainous stages. Eating less carbs on flat stages. Eating even less carbs on rest days ). (4) Using vinegar before meals.

I think she is going a bit far saying there is no such thing as good sugars/starches. What about the inherent contradiction with Asian and Mediterranean diets? Many of them are vegetarian and they eat lots of starches in the form of pasta and rice. Starches are also the preferred energy source of the body. Endurance athletes quite literally only run on sugars they carb load before an event and make sure they consume enough during and after for proper recovery. There is no such thing as bad food groups. The problem is processed food, hidden sugar and a sedentary lifestyle. Paracelsus knew this, an excess of anything is bad for you, even water. None of this information is new, she has just packaged it in a different way.
@shanessinging
@shanessinging 12 сағат бұрын
but we're not all endurance athletes... Shes not ordering us to stop eating carbs and sugars all together, shes suggesting we should try to eat them in way that is friendly towards our blood sugar levels/glucose. One of her main points is about the protective effects of fiber when eating a starchy carb i.e 'clothing' before we consume the carb... Also in south asian diets (i am south asian so speaking from personal background), a vast majority of us are predisposed to developing type 2 diabetes (both my parents and my older relatives all have diabetes) and its just a guess but it one of the factors (as well as genetics) MIGHT be because we're intaking very large amounts of rice that isnt balanced well with our fiber intake. Yes, we might be vegetarians, but we're definitely NOT eating bowls full of veggies alongside our bowls full of rice.

The years one found out that the "Mediterranean Diet" was healthy was after the 2nd world war and the people on that island could have only one meal a day put together with plant stuffs and olive oil which they had in store. They did not have any grain products.
@andrewkelly3520
@andrewkelly3520 9 сағат бұрын
@@shanessinging Thanks for your post, I know we are not all endurance athletes, that was an example in response to her claim that all sugars are inherently bad. Sugars are the body's preferred energy source, which developed out of our prehistoric fight or flight survival needs. The "clothing" scenario as with her recommendations of eating something like Greek yoghurt with starches to reduce insulin spikes are basically synonymous with what used to be called "eating a balanced diet". The increase in processed foodstuffs which contain hidden sugars and a predominantly sedentary lilfestyle (no more fight or flight) is the root cause. It would be interesting to know if the stats on diabetes reflect high consumption of rice and pasta in the respective cultures. Foodstuff laws and regulations also play a major role, for example, types/strains of wheat and gluten content permitted in processed foods. Sugar derivatives, like corn starch, invert corn syrup and on on. Some countries allow more extensive use of these components in food processing and others control them more strictly.

Digestion: Coca-Cola: Being carbonated and acidic, it can sometimes cause bloating or indigestion for some people. The high sugar content also causes a quick spike in blood sugar levels. Orange juice: While acidic, it’s generally easier on the stomach. Its natural sugars are accompanied by fiber (if unfiltered), slowing down sugar absorption and providing a more balanced digestive experience. Carbonation: Coca-Cola: Carbonated, which gives it that bubbly, fizzy feel. Orange juice: Non-carbonated. It’s a smooth liquid, no fizz involved. Type of Sugar: Coca-Cola: Contains high fructose corn syrup (or cane sugar in some versions), which is a processed sugar leading to fast energy spikes. Orange juice: Contains fructose, the natural sugar found in fruits, along with a bit of glucose. It's more slowly absorbed compared to the processed sugars in soda. Caffeine: Coca-Cola: Contains caffeine, which stimulates the nervous system and can give you a quick energy boost (or jitteriness in some cases). Orange juice: No caffeine. It provides energy through its natural sugars and vitamins instead. Compounds: Coca-Cola: Contains phosphoric acid, artificial flavors, and sometimes colorings like caramel color. It has zero nutritional benefits. Orange juice: Loaded with vitamin C, antioxidants, potassium, and natural compounds like flavonoids, which are good for your health.

By the evening, after I get home around seven or if I stay at the gym till it closes at eleven and I don’t wear my gym clothes to the gym, I change into my gym clothes in the locker room. After I’m done working out, I shower at the gym so I can go or do whatever else I like when I leave. When I get home, I’m hungry and make dinner. It's not a big meal, just something with meat and water; I eat avocados, Roma tomatoes, and jalapeño; I don’t eat salad that often, and tons of natural butter fat, and I love chocolate. My favorite is dark chocolate, and I don’t smoke, and I don’t drink. My 62 birthday is almost here, and I love anything with pumpkin. The main take all all this is you DO NOT HAVE to eat three meals a day, including breakFAST only eat when you are hungry!

She is the best ...I love her and all those low keys who are not ready to listen or accept what she says are nuts.........My personal experience of insulin resistence, chronic fatigue, brain fog , eventually Depression and anxiety.....going to the doctors again and again and all tests coming ok. listening to different NUTRIONISTS and trying but nothing worked for me.........She truly is an angel i changed the order of the food ,started watching my glucose spikes , walk after meals and started feeling much better.She makes things easier and simple .

I find that just leaving 5 hours in between meals and not eating after say 6 or 7 o'clock at night really does keep the insulin down. This is the way we kids used to eat in the old days. We never snacked during the day or even after school when I was little. We never had a snack before bed either. Come to. think of it,.we never ate breakfast before school. And of course.we were outside much of the time. Lol

I grew up (f50 in U.K.) on 3 slices toast and jam for breakfast , sandwiches with honey roast ham and salad cream (very sweet) with crisps and chocolate bar and fruit juice for lunch, after school I’d eat another 2-3 toast with jam, some biscuits then dinner around 7/8 with sweet puddings (Swiss roll and custard, sticky toffee or ice cream etc) I was always skinny but I never felt too great and suffered lots of stomach aches and my first periods were horrendously long and painful. Until a few months ago I couldn’t look at most foods without putting on weight and my chronic problems cause pain and distress . I’ve now discovered carnivore and don’t think I can look back. Very happy with results 🎉

Scrolled past this like 4 times, legit seen a different thumbnail each time. First time was something about “YOU’RE BEING LIED TO ABOUT GRAPES?!”

This is most likely the most important dialog and depth that humanity needs to understand to do changes and have succes while doing it. Trying with good intentions but not knowing what we think is healthy is not, and more important get enlightened what actually ARE needed to make a change..... brilliant person to interview and brilliant questions from Steve... Job well done !
