French Drain Man, you are a freakin' genius. Not because your work (and workers) is the best, but your explanation to the diy-er is understandable. Completely. (Helpful hint to the diy-er who just discovered this channel: you need to watch a few hours of his vids to understand the terms and new words that you may have never heard or used before. Like learning a foreign language.)

I just have a question regarding winter up north.. If you have a gutter drain line that ends up under a few feet of snow and you have a freeze, thaw cycle on the house, putting melt water into the gutters, but frozen ground and covered emitter, what happens? When my street is plowed, my front yard gets a bot of push snow and clearing my driveway ends up putting most of it in blown snow that stays a long time. In my area, can't let water directly out on street, and there are no storm drains either, so the concern is for what happens to the system in the winter, up north, under snow but with water.

I live close to Montreal Canada, I have a similar setup for spring through autumn but for winter/spring I let the downspouts empty out about 10 ‘ from the foundation, I think you need think around where the water goes when it rains and the ground is partly/completely frozen. You can also use melting electric cords to put in the eavesthrought, you need to do a bit of trial and error to adapt to freezing temperatures..

Do you screw in the end spout adapter to the corrugated pipe? Do you need a wye adapter for every downspout if you leave in the south (SC) with no nearby trees? Looking for some feedback after watching many of your videos and others I am curious to know what you prefer.

I love your videos and have learned alot. I know you stand by the baughman products. I live in eastern Canada where I see plenty of frost so I like the idea of no joints and using one full run of corrugated pipe. If I dont have access to baughman (yes I know you sell online but it exceeds my budget) would you still recommend using corrugated even if I purchase from a big box store. I have found a thicker version compared to the real thin wall stuff you referenced in this video. Thanks so much, appreciate your feedback

If standard concrete walkway , I dig a trench 3ft each side first to get clearance and then start digging underneath concrete top down , remove excess, top down again, etc. stay consistent and jump to the other side, do the same and you’ll eventually see light! - use a spade- short narrow shovel

@dric30
@dric30 3 жыл бұрын
Anthony , FDM says minimum 14-15 inches deep typically.. I did 13inches to 18inches from high point to low point ( discharge).. no issues for me since the 13inch trench was a stone trench around the patio that will not be walked on. I believe FDM says you can get “ bounce” if you’re less than 14inches..

Hey French Drain Man! I'm from SC, and I can't seem to get ahold of stone without lots of dust and grain for my French drain systems. The pipe that's available to me doesn't have the large inlet size of the high octane, so I'm worried that the inlets may become clogged with the debris in the stone. Is this something I need to worry about, or should I start using perforated, corrugated pipe with the sock instead of the perf without sock?
