@@claireking5634 hey Claire! That’s so exciting you are thinking about buying a houseboat soon. Port Royale doesn’t allow members to rent out their boats, but you can find them for rent at other marinas around the lake on AirBnB and VRBO. Just select the houseboat option in the filters. Hope this helps, and you are able to give the lifestyle a try. It’s a ton of fun

That is great you guys are looking at houseboats. My wife and I haven’t regretted our decision and are absolutely loving being on the lake. Is there a particular type of houseboat y’all are looking at right now? Are y’all thinking Lake Lanier or Hartwell? If you ever want some hands-on experience, we hear Lake Powell in Utah is a big houseboat lake where you can rent houseboats for the weekend/week. We don’t know a ton about it, but the pics we see online look amazing!

Thank you for watching our video! If you’re buying a houseboat, the broker only chargers the seller a commission (just like a typical real estate transaction). So you won’t need to pay the broker anything if you are a buying. If you are selling, the broker fee varies by individual or company. Houseboats are so expensive to move that we’d recommend finding a lake that has houseboats for sale that you are nearby, and then do a Google search for brokers on that lake. My only question is: for a first home buyer, do you go thru a boat broker or a mortgage?

Hey Joshua! Thank you for watching our video. The boat broker we used put us in touch with a marine lender to get the financing worked out. Houseboats are not eligible for a regular mortgage like a home, but the loan we were able to get was similar to a home loan, but with a slightly higher interest rate since it’s a recreational loan vs mortgage.
